Hi everybody
I'm looking for a crimp die for the 500 JRH.
RCBS has their dies listed as:
23812 3-DIE CARB ROLL/C SET .500 S&W/SPL
Doesn't the Special have a case length of 1.28 or 1.3"?
I emailed RCBS to clarify before I bought a set and their responce was that the 500 mag was longer than the JRH and to contact Jack Huntington.
I've been useing a 50AE crimp die to load mine, but I'm about to start playing with some 500gn bullets and thought I might need a stiffer roll crimp.

I boght a spare RCBS seating die and took out the adjustment screw. Then seat and crimp in seperate operations. All bullets crimp same place because of case length. The bullet doesn't touch.

I bought a Redding 500 S&W crimping die but it was to long. My local smith cut off 1/4 inch from the bottom and now it is perfect. It might of worked as is in a regular press but since I use a Forster all the dies sit up real high.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I just got another reply back from RCBS saying that their dies are made for the 500 S&W Special and will work with the 500 JRH.

Lee says that they can make a collet type Factory Crimp Die, but all custom work is suppended until sometime in the summer due to heavy order load.

Glenn,

I have a Redding Profile crimp die for the 475 Linebaugh. After using it some I think it produces a very nice tight crimp having a combiation of taper crimp and finishing with a roll crimp.

Might be something worth looking into.

My die is also labeled 500 S&W Mag/500Spcl. It
has plenty of adjustment for my JRH. It crimps fine. I bought the same seating die. I prefer to seat and crimp in seperate steps because you never have to change the crimp die. I have also crushed caes trying to seat a bullet deeper after it has been crimped I can also load different bullets then crimp them all at once.
By the way Lar45 I am using the lube I got from you. Good shooting.
