I have a Century revolver and have had good luck with it - I ordered it in 1976 and received it in 1988, recoil is not bad at all - but then, again, it weighs 6+ pounds. I would be glad to answer any questions onyone has. [Smile]

MrUREasy,

Delivery time of Century is long... very long... [Wink]

As you ordered it in 1976, it was one of the most powerful handguns at this time together with the .454 Casull (in fact .45 Colt Mag or name like this at this time) and few others. Now there is a large choice of big bore cartridges for handguns.

I'm not a fan of a rifle cartridge out a handgun except T/C with BBL 14" or longer. You will have lots of unburnt powder with your gun, I'm sure you'll love it and I'm agree with. I don't blame you at all. We belong to big bore handguns familySmiler

The recoil of this handgun is tolerable but I can't tell comfortable. For you 45-70 revolver you have done the right choice with Century, now only Phil&Rodg worth, but BFR is "crap" for the price.

I'd like to know more about your gun and you loads use out it.

Many thanks.

Poppy09,

Jim, for $999 you have a simple frame made by Ruger (factory made) all the rest is poor quality and not made by Ruger. This gun isn't a custom gun like Phil&Rodg made. For $500 is a good deal with all BFR gun. I have a friend in Mi who purchased a BFR, when ha saw the gun and the quality, the first thing he has done : SOLD the gun right now.

You can surf on others sites handguns/hunting you'll seen nearly all con BFR.

A big German dealer told me BFR is very good to collect but not to shoot with.

Some of owner of this gun called BFR (Biggest Freakest Revolver).

One year ago I have ordered a BFR in .444 Marlin, I have cancelled it, because advices recieved by friends on BFR.

I don't know caliber that you want but better and cheaper choice Ruger (all models) or Taurus (Raging Bull).

If you are ready to spend $999 for a revolver, spend $500 more and have a Freedom Arms. just my 0.02 cts.

Thanks, Of course I'd prefer the Freedom Arms. But that would require the dicipline to save another five to seven hundred bucks. An aquaintence owns a BFR in 45/70 and has offered to sell it. Perhaps we know why. I was just curious and I thank you. Jim.

Poppy09,

If you want a 45/70 have a Philip& Rodger, but some handgun calibers are more powerful in velocity and in muzzle energy like .454 Casull, .475 and .500 Linebaugh/Long.

I am the friend from michigan that he is refering too. If you want my opinion stay clear of them My grip frame was terrible fitting. the grips even though they were just Pachmayrs we ill fitting. The gun was advertised as a 6 1/2 when it came it was the same lenght as my 71/2 inch super blackhawk. The picture showed a colared insert front sight mine came with a plain stainless when I asked about a replacement I got a runaround that lasted over a month and never did get one they ended up telling me that they can change the production at any time. Have you ever tried to use a plain stainless front sight!! All the edges were blocky and nothing was rounded off. It is extreamly big! All and all I think that the quality control is below the standards of a Ruger for over twice the money. Like bernard said I bought one and was going to have John Linebaugh rechamber it to .475 even he wasnt happy about doing it and offered to build me a real one instead since then I have aquired a .500 also and I absolutely love them. I relize that not everyone wants to spend that much money. But for what you pay for a BFR you would be much better off buying a super redhawk or a Raging Bull. There a better quality gun!!!

For what it's worth I am very happy with my 10" 45-70 BFR that I've had for the last 2.5 years. On my gun the grip frame fit fine,Bbl. had & still has a mirror finish bore (after 2000 rounds of handloads). I agree it's not FA quality but the price is hundreds of dollars lower. As far as Linebaugh not wanting to alter a BFR I have to wonder if his opinion is colored by the fact he wants to sell you one of his own products? (And his guns are wonderfull I must admit).Just my humble opinion, your results may vary!
