Has anyone shot an Encore with a 500S&W barrel? I'm interested in learning about the recoil and what kind of muzzle break it had. Also, who made the barrel and about how much are they? (Can you get one for under $400?)

Thanks,
QD

Yes,I have shot a Encore with a 500 S&W barrel on it. It was made by OTT. I think it had a fish gill brake onit. It was a very nice shooting rig. Recoil was less than my unbraked 358JDJ. Not sure on price as it was Mikes persoal barrel. Jeff

SSK offers 500 S&W barrels, but they are right at the $400 mark.

I've got one but in a 20 inch carbine barrel. OTT did mine too. Shoots 440 grain Leadheads very well. A picture here if you want to see it.

I got pounded pretty severely - lacerated actually (the geometry of my hand is precisely wrong for factory stocks) - shooting 300 grain ammunition from a 10 inch 454 barrel on my Encore, and I have no use for blast enhancers so I won't be shopping for a 500 tube any time soon. The 500 as a carbine looks cute. It probably doesn't do anything a properly loaded 45/70 tube won't but it might be fun to have a "50", if only for bragging rights. Good hunting!
