I think ALF on the Africa Forum has told the story of his father killing an elephant with a .44 mag many years ago. As I recall the story, at the time he didn't have a lot of choice as the ele was rampaging through his ranch and it was the only gun to hand. Maybe you can ask him about it. | ||

NE 450 No. 2: Gee, it's refreshing to hear someone speak from experience with such affection for the good old plain-vanilla .44 Magnum. This is not a dig at the .454/.480/.500 crowd, but from what some folks seem to be saying these days, the poor .44 Mag is nearly obsolete. I've hunted with the .41 and .44 Mags, but not taken big game with them. Still, I'm sure that with a decent slug and proper shot placement, the .44 is up to nearly any task asked of it. | |||

Bill Thanks for the compliment. No doubt the 454 and the 475 Linebaugh have more "power" than the 44. However the 44 with the right bullet can get the job done. Next time I get to Africa I will give it a try. | |||
