I had the pleasure today of hunting and shooting with bfrshooter. Not only is he a great guy, but he can shoot like nobody's business!! He got a nice buck today with his BFR .475 Linebaugh (a real tack driver) -- but alas, I wasn't so lucky!

We shot the following firearms today:
-BFR 45/70
-BFR .475 Linebaugh
-Ruger SRH in .454 Casull
-Custom Ruger SRH in .475 Linebaugh

Good times and a sore hand! Thanks bfrshooter!! thumb

Sure is fun getting out and shooting a bunch of big bore pistols huh? Big Grin

Almost makes me want to fund a lighting project at the local shooting range to where it is open 24/7 Big Grin , at least then I wouldn't care when I got off work LoL

Congrats on the buck and shooting time.

We had a good time and a very busy day trying to fit everything in. Whitworth is a great guy and a lot of fun. He knows how to hunt but just didn't have any luck. Deer movement really was bad the whole day.
I have one thing to say about his SRH's, they are BRUTAL to the hand. I do think he likes my BFR's. I had soup that night and my hand was still shaking trying to get the spoon to my mouth. Those SRH's STING.
I hope he can get out a lot more, I enjoy his company.

Thanks for hosting me, bfr!! It was a great time, and hope we can do it again one day soon! I do like your BFRs -- the grip doesn't quite work with my hand, but what's not to like about them? They hit virtually anything you aim at out to 100 yards without using Kentucky windage! They are also a hell-of-a-lot easier on the hand than my SRHs!! So, I repeat, what's not to like? If I were on the market for a single action big-bore, I would look no further than BFR.

Next time, I'll bring a bottle of Kentucky windage....... Big Grin

Double actions are brutal with the bid boys, no dout.... Glad you guys had a good time..Trottle those 420s down a little and that will help with recoil...

THrottle down? Nah -- I just have to get used to it. Plus, I'm not so sure that the Hogue wraparound grips are adequate on the handgun. I like 'em on my Casull, but not so thrilled with them on the Linebaugh. I may go back and try out the factory offerings as they fill out my hand a bit more. We'll see, I need to do some experimenting.

bfrshooter -- what is the brand of your red dots? What do they cost, and where do you recommend buying them?

Just my 2 cents but I bought the SRH Alasken grips for my SRH's and they are sweeeeet! I got them strait from Rugers web site. They fit like a champ and turn the .454 into a pussycat. My wife and 110lb sister were shooting 310 grain handloads out of my .44 with no complaints. I have bought about every grip on the market for my SRH's but my buddy bought an Alasken and I liked the grip so much that I went to Rugers site and low and behold they sell them as a part. The regular houge grip is too hard but if you get the one from ruger its sweet!! Just make sure its the "Alasken" grip.

K20350 -- my SRH in .475 Linebaugh has the Hogue wrap-around grips that come on the Alaskan -- in fact I have them on my SRH in .454 Casull as well and while they help tremendously on the .454, the .475 is in a different league with regards to recoil. They are actually a bit too narrow for my hand near the bottom. I may try the factory grips on it as they fill my hand more.

I use the Ultra Dot. Go to Ultra Dot West, they even pay the shipping. I called Magnum research and that is the one that takes all the recoil. I have had zero problems with them.
I have shredded scopes and other red dots.

K20350 -- thanks so much for the offer! I still have the originals -- two sets actually -- just have to get off of my lazy backside and change them out. Thanks again!
