I just received a custom barrel for my G2 contender. When i install it, the hammer will not cock. It will cock with other barrels.

Any advice, short of returning the barrel?

Thanks

Sounds like a problem with your lock lugs.

If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.

Contact whoever made your barrel and ask for advice.

I agree with Redhawk. The locking lugs have to slide under the shelf of the frame sufficiently in order for the hammer to cock. Take the barrel off of the frame, mark the lugs with a black sharpie, reinstall the barrel and snap the action shut several times. You should be able to see how far the lugs are sliding under the action shelf (about half to two-thirds is good). I have had to stone down the lugs on several new custom Contender & Encore barrels.

Another problem that I have had with an Encore one time was tightening the grip bolt too tight. I loosened the grip bolt and that fixed the problem, so I just added another Washer under the bolt.

Good luck!

Every barrel "should" fit every frame, but manufacturing tolerances being what they are, not every barrel works with every frame. Usually the problems occur when putting blued barrels on stainless frames or vice versa -- but you can get a rare misfit even when both components are blued or stainless.

You'll likely have to change out the barrel to fix the problem.

Thanks guys.
I tried but could not get it to work.
I sent the barrel and action to the custom barrel maker.
I won't say who made the barrel, unless they don't resolve the issue properly.
thanks again.
