What does everyone think is the best 9mm auto pistol available. I'm looking for accuracy and dependability and don't give a flip about magazine capacity. In fact, the big mag's are a turn off.
Anyone have any strong favorites and why?

Sig Sauer! FWIW, my department conducted extensive testing of the top pistols and found Sig Sauer to the best. It's also great in 40 and 45. You can't go wrong with Beretta either, but for a 9mm it's much too large, in our opinion. The military uses the Beretta and Sig P-228 as their sidearms. Most law enforcement is carrying either the Sig, Beretta, or Glock. Lou

Put me down for Sig Sauer too. I've got four of their pistols and like them alot. If you are looking for a compact carry gun, the Sig 225 is a very good choice. It is no longer manufactured, but it is slim and sleek and you can find them for sale without too much difficulty. I think it has an 8 round single stack mag. I've never heard of an inaccurate Sig and they give pride of ownership too boot.

I own a Uzi Eagle in 9mm made by Magnum Reasurch, and I have never seen its equal. It came stock with nightsites and two ten round mags. I have feed it over eight thousand rounds, and have never had a problem, even with some really ugly reloads from when I was first learning. It won't feed Norinco ammo, but anything and everything else is fine. Everybody that shoots it, loves it. The look feel and function are amazing and first rate. I have owned several 9mms, and doubt that I will own another after this one. Unless I find an old Luger for sale, but that goes without saying....
I think you guys have been reading my mind again. The Sig is what I've been thinking of.
The Beretta and CZ clone both shot good from what I've seen, but I would want a bigger caliber if I'm going to have to pack around a pistol that big regardless.
Most of the high capacity 9s feel about as ergometric as picking up a 2x4. I like a pistol that just seems to snuggle right up into my hand and become an extension of my arm.
I'm gonna take serious look at the Sig.

There's always has to some doof that champions the Browning Hi-Power. I'll be that shill.
The HP has the most ergonomic grip ever. Nice and small. Plus, you get the SA action. Of course you'll have to spend upwards of $300 smoothing out the trigger. HPs also tend to rate fairly high accuracy out of the box compared to other nines.
I can't stand the feel of a SIG in action. It feels top heavy when cycling.
D.A. - I've shot the Brownings quite a bit. Had a couple of pals who used them and it's indeed a pretty good pistol. Functions very well and shot good. But the grip to me still feels a little "boxy." I don't think a person can get away from that block-like grip and still have the hi-cap magazines. It's just a personal thing that I've never liked that feel in a pistol. Doesn't mean there aren't some good pistols available with this characteristic. So, I'm not going to throw any stones at you and your Browning.

To me the 9mm that fits my hand the best is the Browning Hi-Power. I have a Sig 226 that is an excellent gun but the Hi-Power just fits me better. You can't go wrong with either one.

Wes is pretty close. If you can find one, try the HK P7 PSP with European mag release. More compact than the M8. Hides like a Chief Special. Have never had a misfunction in the more than 25 years I've had it, and I don't treat it nice enough. Only found one inaccurate load (it only shot well in a slingshot-Fed 100gr leadfree); everything else ranged from accurate to remarkable.

I have a Browning Hi-Power and my second choice would be a P7 M8/13 if I could afford it. I have a hatred for plastic frame pistols, oh, and I also like single action triggers. I don't like the trigger take up, no matter how smooth, on stuff like the Walther 99. The P7 is a perfect medium for this...that is, DA with single action pull. Sigs...how about a SIG 210? I've "heard" they're good, but I could have 8 FN Brownings like mine for the price of a 210...not worth it. I'd get a P7 if you like the grip and not have to worry about extra gunsmith costs, or ever needing another 9mm.

I'd love to own a P7, but just can't rationalize spending that much on one gun. I wishe H&K would start to manufacturre it in the states or do smoething to make it less expensive. I've owned and shot a few 9mm's - Beretta, Sig 229, Browning HP, Ruger P89 and a few others that I can't remember offhand. My favorite, without questions, is my Glock model 17. It's rugged, extrememly reliable, and as accurate as any 9mm that I've shot. It won't win any beauty contests, but the performance is hard to beat. I'm thinking about buying another Glock - a slightly more compact model.
If all out accuracy is your criteria then the SIG 210 gets to cut toward the front of the line. No one I know who was issued or owned one had any complaints with regard to reliability. It feels better in my hand than even a HiPower. Of course it dents the wallet much better than even a P7. Personally I have enough nines, but if were forced to pick one it would be the Kahr PM9 but for reasons different from those you describe. If you don't own a nine yet look consider the CZ 75 and the Kadet 22 rimfire adapter. http://www.cz-usa.com/product.pistols.php
Before you judge the HP's grip, try one that has slimline grips installed. These are readily available and inexpensive. I've owned all the pistols that have been mentioned and the HP with thin grip panels feels best to my mediun sized hand. Accuracy, reliability and hi cap magazine availability are all excellent.

Most of the current quality 9mms are reliable, accurate & will last you along time. It depends on the size & shape of the grip for most shooters. SOme love the Glock some love the Sig, Shoot some diff. models & see what works for you. I like my BHP but if I were buying a new 9mm today w/ the mag restrictions, I would look @ a single stacker Sig. 239. If you go to a bigger pistol you might as well go up to a .40.

Though I am new to posting on this site, I do have some experience in this department. As I make my living as an investigator and carry a sidearm. I have been carrying a P7 M8 for years it is very accurate and easy to carry. It is not only safe, but as a squeeze-cocker it is the fastest gun made to draw, cock and fire.
I have used a bunch over the years. Since I have small hands, grip size is very important to me. When I competed, I used a Glock 17L back before it was fashionable to have more than 8 rounds and did quite well. Today I think the best for fit and function is the CZ75 Compact. It always works and just feels right in my hand.

Could that be the one you like the most and have the most success and confidence with?
I've never shot a Sig or H&K, nor do I have any desire to. Beretta's don't shoot worth a damn for me despite my large hands.
My choices for dependable, durable accurate 9mm's equate to two models;
In an SA, the Browning Hi-Power (even the Nazi's during WWII loved this model!, and when they captured Fabrique Nationale's factory, only added Nazi proof-marks to their version/s).
In a DA, the Glock's with their plastic, polymer frames get my vote! These pistols have been extremely successful and not by accident. Try the Glock; you might become a convert.
I'll add however, I once was able to shoot a CZ75 a shooter had when I was admiring his gun at a public range in Salt Lake City. That's probably the smoothest, most balanced double-action 9mm I've ever handled. One rumor I've heard over the years is that the CZ75 is the weapon-of-choice in a 9mm pistol for the infamous Soviet Spetznatz spec-ops troops. After shooting that one, I believe the rumors!

Since you seems to disslike 2X4, how about a 1911 in commander or officer configuration? Very good ergonomic's, millions of extras to choose from. 1911 will take really hot loads without bitching and breaking. I really like Les Bear and Ed Brown.
