After a good bit of feedback on this forum, I have decided on a Ruger SBH Hunter with Bisley grip in .44. I was quoted $599 by my local shop. I don't think they're doing me any favors. This sounds a bit high. Anyone have an opinion? Thanks.

Check the Ruger website -- I believe that they offer MSRPs for each product. You can always get them cheaper than the manufacturer's suggested price.

Carolina -- stainless or blued?? The most expensive blued SBH listed on the Ruger website was $605.00 -- see if you can talk them down. Usually retailers have more wiggle room than we think.

There is absolutely no reason to pay more than $550 for one, and thats a tad high. I bought one in 44mag for $499 and one in the harder to get 41 mag for $539, both about 18 months ago. The 41mag I had Gary Reeder do a conversion to the 410GNR, using the existing barrel. These are great platforms for a hunting revolver. Keep and eye on gunbroker as I would think you could do better there if your dealer won't do better on the price.

I would try to find one used myself. I earlier this year bought a SRH in .44 for $450 and it had $200 in gunsmithing done to it. (I know the smith that did the work). My friend just picked up a SRH in .454 at a pawn shop that is mint last week for $425. The resale on Ruger handguns are very low. Despite being very good handguns in my opinion. The only problem I have with the rugers is that they bang the knuckle on my middle finger with heavy loads. I solved that problem in short order by buying a SRH Alasken grip from rugers website. The grip inpressed my friends enough that they all bought them for their guns. I had bought about every grip out there for mine but the factory alasken grip made for them by hogue is the best by far. Hell I did pretty well for myself shooting mine in field pistol in IHMSA this year. I guess what I am saying is that unless you absolutely have to have new they are out there cheap if you can live with used. Good luck I love my Rugers!

K20350 -- you are absolutely correct in that used Rugers can be had for a song and a dance -- but that is good for us!

My brother-in-law just recently bought a mint .480 SRH for $400.00 on Guns America.

You are correct about the Hogue wrap-around grips -- I have them on both of my SRHs.......

Thanks for the input. I sure felt it was a bit high even though it was below MSRP. I'm looking for the stainless Hunter version, by the way.

Woodrow has it about right. Buglemintoday has linked some nice plain superblackhawks, but none of them is the Hunter model. I am really looking at the one in 41, as if I need another 41.

Will these rubber Alaskian grips work for the newer model Super Blackhawk Hunters with the plow handle grips? All the grips that I have seen for the Blackhawk series is the one that has the squared off back side on the trigger guard. These don't fit the newer Hunter models.

Rafsob -- they will not fit the SBH as they are a Super Redhawk double action grip.
