Need some more help. I received a lot of good info here about what short and light 4-5" revolver I should buy to carry when I am rifle hunting. Just purchased a 4" Taurus Tracker that weighs 34 oz. My other 44 mag is a Ruger Bisley Hunter that weights about four pounds, scope and all. The Tracker will only be half that. So how do I shoot it? Grip it only firm enough to keep it from jumping out of my hand? Enough grip to “guide” the recoil? Or very firm and try to hold the gun down? My 308 Ultra Light Rifle, 6 1/4 lbs, shoots best if I hold it tightly to my shoulder. Don’t know about a light heavy recoiling handgun. Need some advice here. Thanks, Richard

I suggest you're making more out of it, than it really is. Think trigger pull.(squeeze)

Having owned and shot a ultra light S&W 357 Mag and 44 Mag, I say get some shooting gloves. Your hand is going to sting. If anyone tell you different, they have not shot one of these guns. Use your normal grip you use on any heavy recoiling handgun, you don't want to hold the gun so tight that your shooting suffers, and you don't want a limp wrist hold. A nice firm grip is all you need. I would rather shoot my 4 inch 500 Mag 100 times, than shoot them ultra light guns. They are not fun to shoot what so ever. I would never own another one. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ Member of the Delaware Destroyers Member Reeders Misfits NRA Life Member ENDOWMENT MEMBER NAHC Life Member DSA Life Member

practice dry fireing, and then use lite loads untill you feel comfortable.Buy a pair of bicycle gloves with gel in the palms for shooting.use lighter loads untill you feel confident and then use what you want to carry in it.I doubt it will jump out of your hand.

How do I say this without sounding silly,, shoot a couple dozen rounds and IT will tell YOU how firm to hold it... (When I was a kid my father used to tell me that God hated a coward, I finally realized he has even less use for a fool.)

For my M29 I put Pachmyer grips on it.Start with light loads and work up. When I shoot a 9mm, 40 or 45 I lock my elbow and movement in my wrist takes up the recoil without the gun moving in my hand. With a 44 mag I can't do that so I bend my elbows a bit and when firing my arm bends more acting as shock absorbers.Remember that if the gun moves in your hand the next shot will have a different point of impact !!!

It all depends on the load. I have a S&W 357PD Airweight in .41 Mag. Full-house 210gr. XTP loads with lots of H110 powder just plain suck. 3 rounds is enough. However I've also got a load of a 260gr. Cast Performance GC bullet over 16.0 gr of 2400 and it's actually quite manageable. A dozen rounds and I don't feel punished. I bought the gun with the intent of carrying it a lot and shooting it a little, so when I worked up my carry-load for it, I was looking for a load that would let me fire 6 rounds and have complete control over the 6th round. I'm quite happy with the results. So, if you don't find what you are looking for, then build it yourself. Final note: like others, I find the heavier bullet loads to be more manageable than the light-fast loads. Regards, Robert ****************************** H4350! It stays crunchy in milk longer!
