Beautiful to look at for sure.
You gonna shoot it, or keep it on display?

Beautiful work, but for my taste, I wish he had just used "45 Colt". There technically is no cartridge named 45 Long Colt. There is the 45 Colt and the 45 ACP. Unfortunately, the norm has become to call the revolver round the "Long Colt" even though it is technically incorrect.

Still, all in all a gorgeous piece. I hope it shoots as well as it looks!

Very nice. Some people complain about various aspects of Gary Reeder's guns, usually because they don't like something about the styling, but I have never seen one that wasn't well put together.
Enjoy it!

Are those bullets you mentioned what's called
The Hammerhead?
IF so, mine come out at 330gr.
Use 'em in a blackhawk 7 1/2", 20gr H110 is about all I can handle with 'em. I've shot maybe 200 practicing thinking they'd be hell on elk out to 100yds or so when one comes out and the rifle's not within reach. Happened to me twice.

Good luck with it. Beautiful gun.

The loads are cast performance bullets clockin around 1200 fps.
As for the 45 Long Colt engraving, that was what I specified not what someone else picked.
For being historically correct or not I DONT CARE!!! Gary Reeder built the revolver exactly the way "I" specified!
I carry a pistol everyday of my life up here. This one will see lost of use from a Diamond D Custom Guides Choice holster.
Hope the wife does not choose to have hers done anytime soon as she has a consecutive serial number to mine LOL!

the 45 Colt got the long added after the 45 Shoenfield was renamed the 45 Short. They used the "long" to remember that it would not chamber in guns made for the short 45.

Technically speaking the name of the cartridge is 45 Colt but the "nickname" stuck.

Speer, Sierra, Lyman, Hornady, Hodgdon have reliable reloading data. You won't find it on so and so's web page.

Very nice. Be careful. Reeders can become a bit addictive. The sights he puts on them are great and allow for up close and precision shooting. I enjoy mine. Should get any bear's attention.

Kinda like if you renamed the 30-06 the .308 Winchester Long.

Hope you get to kill a bear with it. Your Cast Performance boolits, patterned after Veral Smith's LBT cast slugs should perform just fine. My 335 gr 45 Colt's did just that.

22: Congratulations on having a fine sixgun custom built to your specs. Few of us ever get around to it. Glad you are planning to hunt with it.

Alan, that's a bucket list moose. Thanks for the photo.

Bill, it is simply a matter of picking a 'smith, sending your gun and deposit, and waiting. No "getting around to it" necessary! Do it, it's never too late!

I agree with this statement. I finally sent mine off to Bowen to have it made into my dream gun.
This is my retirement present after 24yrs in the military so it had to be something special.
He said it might get done by this year and I can't wait.

That is excellent, and well deserved! Please post up photos of it when you get it back from Bowen!
