This is sad and I'm pissed. I'm a very big man. 6'2" around 500lbs, but up untill two years ago I got around just fine. 2 years ago a woman turned left from the right hand lane on a one way, and I T boned her at 35mph on my H-D. I went over her car and landed on my feet. Bruised the bones in my left heel and severly spained the ankle. Blew out both knees. The doctors don't want to replace the knees due to I'm only 42 year young at the time and would wear out before I die if I live to a ripe old age. This was going to be my first year back in the feild, but Dang it hurts to walk on any uneven ground. Man if I can't hunt what will I do? Maybe have to move to one of the states where blind hunting is more fesable. CRAP this sucks!! Oh well wining over now! Montana, all I can tell you is what has worked for me. This is not meant, in any way to be negative. I almost quit hunting a couple years ago because of several of the same reasons, over weight, two knee surgeries, etc. The best thing I ever did and the best money I ever spent was to join a gym, hire a personal trainer and go at it. Even if I didn't lose as much as I wanted, YET, I am twice as strong, feeling better than I have in 30 years and am looking forward to the season again. I just got tired of feeling sick all the time and feeling generally shitty. I know personal trainers are not cheap, but mine was worth every penny. I have had three abdominal surgeries and he was able to create exercises that did not impact the yards of mesh that hold my abs together and now I do machine crunches with 100 pounds of weight on the machine. I am still overweight, but again, twice as strong and every pound you take off will relieve your knees of 3 pounds of force while walking. Keep your chin up. Yes but I have a hard time calling it hunting in my mind. ( no offence to those who do it) I just like being out there on my own. Just me a nature. Might just have to give it more concideration. Yes I have been trying very hard to loose wieght, and get in better shape. Slow and steady, but I have lost around 60 lbs and still working on it. Congrates on your success! Well done! 60 pounds is great! Just keep working on it. All of this is mostly mental anyway, I found out. Go hunting! I know it may hurt, but you won't remember it later and it is good exercise. ..... Montana Madness ...... I,m almost 50 and have worked hard all my life ... I believe being strong physically is a huge part of feeling good ,and the better shape you are in the healthier you will feel ... If you want to know what a handicap is ,try having 20 400 vision .. Yes I wear corrective lenses , but they fog up all the time , and / or my contacts act up ... Every one has something to overcome ...It is what God uses to build character in us .........I,ve broke quite a few bones and torn alot of stuff up . Fallin Timber , building houses and being a construction laborer all lend them selves to lots of pain most mornings ... God helps and I keep goin ahead on er ..... The alternative is un acceptable ......It is an absolute fact one of the healthiest things a person can do is go on a fast .........That can get things on board working better and they can help to get your knees healed up ........ Get rid of the Harley and you can afford a personal trainer ...................... .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

I've been in your neck of the woods and I couldn't deal with gas-permeable contacts in Montana (Birth State) and Texas so I just wear eyeglasses. At 70 under 0, what do you do when your contact(s) go wrong? I'm still scared of people pointing lasers or scalpels anywhere near my eyeballs so eyeglasses it is for me.

.. . For modern day working and living , it is a challenge ,, last winter ,March ,one morning I was working outside @ Deadhorse , Imy saftey glasses kept iceing over ,it was 45 below with 2-5 mph breeze.. I had to take off my safety glasses and so the breeze caused my eyes to water , When I would blink my eye lid would freeze shut sometimes , I would have to pull off my mitts, and glove and tear the ice off my eye lashes so my eye lid could open ... Contacts are the only thing I can work in out side execpt for when it,s above 40 deg.F... They dry out and I go thru alot of them ... It really isn,t good when I get saw dust , dirt ,ice ,and snow in my eyes ....... Happens alot . For fallin timber I wear screen bug eye goggles . They work well for protecting my eyes , and I am going to try them this winter in Prudhoe Bay .. For some tasks they may work well ... You wouldn,t think you would sweat much @ 40 below but I sure do ....... They say alot about saftey , but I get hired because I work hard ,even tho I am a little chubby 5'9" 245 lbs ... When I hunt or work on my own I have to learn to pace myself ... I,m going to try a breath warmer face mask this year , should have already ordered it , but it may help alot if it directs the exhaled breath away from goggles ... Good UVEX goggles seem to work pretty well ..Problem with contacts is seeing things close up ....boy is it frustrating ... .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

For years I wore daily wears -- you pop a new pair in every morning, and in the evening you toss 'em out. I actually saved a lot of money using them, especially in storage solution and saline. Every time I took a contract overseas I would have to haul a year's supply of all of this crap and it was a real pain. The daily wears are MUCH more convenient, gumboot. Sorry for the thread hijack! Know what you mean Lloyd, 2 major knee surgeries, 2 shoulder surgeries, and now a ankle and back giving me problems. I have to make an appointment and get the ankle and back checked out. I think I compressed a disc in my lower back, it hurts to sit or even ride in my truck or mowers. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. MM, With you knees, have you ever thought about going to a Dr. and asking about gastric bypass surgery? I know it's a pretty big surgery but I know some people that did it and it's working out well for them. Should help getting a lot of weight off of you (congrats on the 60 pounds, though, btw!) and will relieve some of the stress on your knees. I heal fast and don't scar.

I considered myself in good shape for my age but at 50 started falling apart. I too worked a physical job all my life. I was an electrical lineman. Problem is even though it kept me in shape it along with my earlier years of racing dirt bikes and snowmobiles and wrecking cars took its toll on the body and im starting to pay for it. A lineman is a physical job that keeps you in shape but i dont know of a single lineman over 50 that doesnt suffer back and knee problems of some kind. As to the personal trainers and physical theropist. I went through that gamit and to me it was a complete joke. It may work for someone with a pulled muscle but dont let them tell you they can fix real problems. My doctor told me that they two years i spent doing theropy actually compounded my disc problems. Same for the ciroparcters. If any recomends you go to one. Punch him in the face imedeiately!!!! Also dont buy into the old timers theroy that when you hurt just work it off. Pain is your body telling you theres something wrong and you should stop doing what your doing! I learned that the hard way too! If i wouldnt have listened to all the people who though they knew the answers and went to a proper doctor to start with i wouldnt be living the rest of my life with this fricking cane!

Gumboot. You have never been behind me then. My theory is stay about 2 mph faster than the trafic around you. That way you are in control. Loyde. Thank you sir that is sage advice. I am now looking at a job change. I think maybe it's time to put down my wrenches and start teaching the next group of tech's. Have been submiting resumes all over. The obvious question is, "Did the woman or you have medical insurance?" If so, then "what the doctors want to do" is pure BS. You deserve to be made whole, or as much as possible, whatever their opinion is of how long the knee replacements will last. That's a future problem. If anyone in the crash had insurance I STRONGLY suggest you find an attorney to handle this part of your medical issues. If the doctors you have consulted won't step up, the answer is simple, find another set of doctors, they're everywhere. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. BTW, you won't live to a ripe old age at 42, 6'2" and 500 pounds so that is not an issue. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. Granted that may very well be true. But my whole family is very large and they all have lived to a ripe old age so far. Grandparents on both sides made it into their 80's. And all my aunties and ungles are still alive and kicking. Wierd ass genes in my family. Fat people with great hearts Still going to do my best to lose the weight, and am well on my way now. Yes she had insurance, but the doctores screwed me and tried to say most of this was due to my weight. Even if I had no problems before the wreck. My lawer sucked and it was my first time in the system. So I seattled to soon. Well, do you have personal medical insurance? Second, you need to re-visit your settlement or consider having another lawyer sue your lawyer? xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members.
