Tried a "One Ragged Hole" peep on one of my Blackhawks, liked it. So I made one for my Freedom 97 in 45 Colt. Took it out today, and shot the tightest group ever at fifty yds, only problem being, it was 10" high. Rear is bottomed out, so looking for a taller front. how much will it take to get it down where it belongs and give me a little adjustment?

What length barrel? If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out.

For proper operation of a peep sight the peep must be close to the eye . This way the peep automatically centers on the eye. Then you have a quick and accurate sight ! This then is a 'ghost ring ' sight. The rear sight is not noticed when shooting. So for a handgun it's not good but for a shotgun or rifle it's excellent .

I love the peep on my Blackhawk! Most people who have shot it like it as well. When you get old like me and can not focus on but one of the three (rear sight, front sight and target), a fuzzy rear peep works much better than a fuzzy rear sight blade. To get the sight height change needed, multiply the sight radius by the impact change needed and divide by the distance to the target. For the sight radius, measure from the back of the rear sight blade to the back face of the front sight. Convert everything to inches. 50 yards is 1800 inches (50x36). For example if your sight radius is 8.75 inches, the front sight change needed for 10” impact change at 50 yards is .049 inches (8.75*10/1800). For the best results, center your rear sight for elevation, shoot again and use that measurement for the needed sight change. NOTE: The change needed should be added to the existing front sight height to order the correct height.

MS Hitman, it is a 5.5" bbl. the sight radius is 6.25" from the back of the peep to the back of the blade/bead. Mete, Turk has it right. I have peep sights on most of my deer rifles and 22s. They indeed do work on a handgun even at arms length. I shot a 2" group at 50 yds yesterday with this setup. Will do the calculation and see what comes up. Thanks for your replies, guys.
