We leave Saturday for the Monday opener in Maine, so today, Redhawk and I decided to make our final tune up before putting the wheelguns in the cases.

Redhawk is an excellent shot and is pure ANAL about sighting in. He always has to take "just one more shot" only to find it just a tad off needing further adjustments.

We got to the range today and since it's private, we were in no rush. Well at least I wasn't. I'd cut out the silhouette of about a 300 pound black bear and set it up at the 25 yard the guide has told us the baits would be. Redhawk stoked his 510GNR and stood offhand to fire five shots that you could cover with your palm. He fired them in just about 15 seconds I suppose and I accused him of showing off.

Took me a bit longer and since I was shooting the big guns, I wanted to use the shooting table to support my lower arms. Both my 460 and the 500 were as good as I'll ever get them. He fired his Encore pistol with the holograph sights and it was a tad off. He finished it up and we were done....almost. He wanted to shoot his Reeder from the table. He was all over the place with about a 10 inch group at best. He tried again from the table with the same results. I just couldn't believe it.

Then I suggested that he stand up and try as he'd done when we arrived. DEAD NUTS. He may have had a 3 inch group at worst.

We can only assume that when he shot the open sights on the revolver from the table, he was bending his head down to get his face over the sights and while standing was holding the gun UP to his line of sight for shooting. Either way, he's decided NOT to use a rest to shoot at any bear he sees.

Good shooting, sounds like you guys are ready, hope ya'll have a great hunt, and get BIG bears.

As to the difference in Redhawk's groups.

I have seen this many times. Does not matter if it is a big bore handgun or a big bore rifle, change the recoil movement and group size and or loaction can change.

My handguns with scopes and red-dots, I have no problem with groups, standing or sitting at the bench.
But when I am using open sights, I shot better off hand.
But open sights is what I am going to use, I just know, not to rest my gun on anything.

Don't let George tell you he cannot shoot a handgun well, at 50 yards he was popping tiny condensed milk can with his 500 and 460 Mag. On the bear silhouette, he ask if I wanted a hole in it's ear, and dam if he did not put a hole in the ear. Showing off he was...lol

I ended up shooting 70 rounds yesterday and reload them back up last night. The guns are packed and ready to go. Now all I have to do is get all my hunting clothing together and get up to Maine.

I just got an e-mail from the Outfitter last night, he said he has bear on all his baits except one. He also said they have had a ton of rain, but the weather is clearing up, and we should have some better day, without the rain.

If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.

Sounds like the hunt is coming together. I know you both are excited. I hope you have fun and see a lot of bears.

If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out.
