I am considering shooting in IDPA, perhaps IPSC? I have an EEA Witness in 45ACP and a Kahr P9 in 9MM. I am trying out a Glock 19 and perhaps a Glock in 40, or a Glock in 45ACP. I know the two sports are very different disciplines I lean toward the 9MM for IDPA. Does IPSC still have the minor caliber designation for the 9MM? Any advice from you who have participated will be very helpful.

Unless you are going to reload and load light loads there is no reason to shoot anything but a 9mm in IDPA except for CDP where you have to shoot a .45 ACP and SSR where you are shooting a revolver. To be competitive in CDP or SSR you really should load some light loads in those calibers at least at the top levels of the game. The Glock is a great IDPA pistol as are the 1911 variants. If the Witness in 45 fits you hand go for it they are actually great pistols for the money, just remember to load only 8 rds in CDP and if you shoot it in SSP you have to start with the hammer down and really need lighter reloads to be competitive. The Kahr is a decent concealed carry pistol, I have a K9 myself but fine the handle on the P9 is too thin to get a good grip on, if the large frame Witness fits I have problems seeing the P9 fit well. The key is to decide if you are shooting to win/ be competitive or are you shooting for fun or to practice with your real carry gear. After that decision is made you can decide your equipment. As far as IPSC classing the 9mm as minor that is true but I believe if you shoot in Limited 10 then all pistols are scored as minor so it isn't a big deal. Jason
