Used some of Hornady's new 300 grain .411 spire pts. made for the 405 win. moving at 2100 fps.

8:00am
4pt. broad side at 70-80 yds. Both lungs and the top of the heart. Got back up and run sideways for 30yds.

half hour later
7pt. same distance, quartering toward me. Dropped in his tracks.

I did not see an exit wound, so hopefully I will be able to recover my first bullet! 7 deer in 7 shots!

More later!

Whitworth it is .411 caliber, you probaby want to know what cartridge? It is a 240 weatherby opened up to .411 and shorted a bit! It has a 14" barrel, if it were 17", I probably would have a 405 win.

You know what I meant! Would love to see a picture of it. That's got to hurt a bit -- on both ends!

Man that HAS got to hurt. I have a .41/.445 Supermag that runs a 300 grain cast bullet at 2000 fps and that hurts....

Have not had a chance to shoot any of the Hornady jacketed stuff in it yet.

308 is on the left for comparison
300 Hornady FP
300 Hornady SP
300 Hawk .035
240 BarnesX.....300 with the some of the base removed, must be loaded single shot! Too long for the mag.

Velosity of the 300 Hawk is 2110 fps. I have not clocked the Hornady bullets. Using IMR 4198, I can't get enough powder in to reach max pressure, but velosity and accuracy are both very good!

Sako bolt gun with a rear grip.

Autopsy report:
The bullet kept going!

Deer was quartering toward me.

The bullet entered middle of the neck on the left side, taking the top off the spine, either a piece of the bullet or broken bone entered the rib cage and hit the top of the right lung. A small piece of jacket was found after the spine and before the exit, just behind the right shoulder blade. Small exit wound, maybe a 1/2" diameter.

The bullets need more TESTING!
