Has anyone tried the plated bullets that Berry's Mfg is now making for the 500? I was thinking about loading up some reduced loads for the gun for the wife to play around with and for target practice. For those that have used them, are you using the same loads as jacketed bullets or something between jacketed and lead (since they're a little softer than the first but harder than the latter).

I have used a lot of Berrys bullets in the past in .41, .44 and .38 Super...just picked up a 500 S&W 4" tonight and will probably be ordering some.

Found a post where Lyman is recommending 10-20 grains of Unique depending on the bulet and velocity desired...10 gets somehwere around 850 fps and should be a fun plinker..

Here's a link to Ranger Rick's T-rex Thumpers. He has them up to 700 gns for the 500 S&W.

I've got a 4" 500 and have been shooting the Lee 440 at around 950 fps. It's a nice pleasant load.

Tried the 4" the other day with 13.5 grains of Unique with the 300 grain Speer TMJs for the .50AE...very plasant to shoot. Loaded the rest of them up and a box of the 325 grain Gold Dot HPs up with 15 grains of Unique and will be trying the load during the week.

Also ordered 500 of the Berry's plated bullets...hard to beat for the price. Will probably mainly be shooting these and the Speer 350 UniCore softpoint but the heavy hard cast are going to get a try...

The Berry's 500s came in today. Won't get a chance to load then for two weeks as I am going out of town. Also called Lee Precision to see if they were making a Carbide Factory Crimp Die. Was told "no" but they would make a custom rifle style Factory Crimp Die for $29.00 delivered. So I seated a bullet on a sized case and sent it off...

Also going to order some of the 440/510/700 T-Rex bullets when I get back...that has got to "rock"... Eeker

Let me know how it goes. I went down to Cabela's and picked up a bag of 385 gr. Core-Lokt's because that's the best deal goin' except for the Berry's and I'm going to try to take a few deer with them this season. The big holdup right now is Cabela's. They've been horsing around and dragging their feet for a month trying to get my scope. Finally got them to overnight one from another store and it should be here tomorrow hopefully. Then Saturday it's blammo time! Then Sunday it's off to Canada for business. Frowner
