JJHACK. THE MAIN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 629 AND THE MOUNTAIN REVOLVER ARE: THE BBL IS THIN LIKE THE OLD 44 SPECIAL BBLS USED TO BE. THE GRIP FRAME IS IN THE ROUND BUTT CONVIGURATION. YOU CAN STILL USE SQUARE BUTT GRIPS, CLOSED BACK STRAP, IF YOU WANT TO. THE CYLINDER HAS A MORE BEVELED EDGE ON THE FRONT. THIS MAKES THE GUN A LITTLE LIGHTER, AND KICK A LITTLE MORE. THEY ALSO HAVE A NARROW TRIGGER, AND A STANDARD HAMMER. WHEN I GOT ONE MY WIFE PROMPTLY SIEZED IT. SHE LIKES THE LIGHTER WEIGHT ON HER BELT. HER "NORMAL" LOAD IS TWO SPEER/CCI SHOT SHELLS UP FIRST, FOLLOWED BY FOUR 240GR. CAST SWC OVER 9.2GR. OF UNIQUE. THE GUN SHOOTS FINE, SHE DID LET ME SIGHT IT IN, THEN SHE FIRED A FEW SHOTS, HOLSTERED THE MOUNTAIN REVOLVER, SAID THANKS, AND WALKED AWAY... OH, SHE LETS ME CLEAN IT TOO...

| Greetings! The Mountain gun is a 4" 629 S&W that has been put on a diet It has a thinner contoured barrel and a round butt grip frame for an overall lighter weight than the standard 4" 629. Other than that, the history of the design dates all the way back to the 1950's and Elmer Kieth's premod29 S&W 4" 44mag revolvers, and they use the same profile barrel as the 1950 44Special 4" S&W's I am seeking after one myself: they are relatively hard to find (I am a Dealer and have a hard time finding them) so if you like the revolver, by all means jump on it ------------------ http://seanhhi7364.tripod.com/starivout/ "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. | I have been packing one now for years. Best purchase I've ever done! Love it! I do not feel under gunned when I'm in the field. By all means jump on that pistol. My hunting partner has one in 45 long colt. He just loves it. Ter |

Snag it before someone else does. I looked for one for 2 years with no success (it's not a regular run, and it's not cataloged. S&W just makes x amount a year, some years). I found mine the day I just purchased another gun. After winding up the deal I was chatting with the smith and told him of my search for a Mountain Gun. He told me hold it a minute and walked in the back room. He came out with a brand new MG just in that day. A quick trip to the credit union for extra dough and it was mine. I love it. ------------------ Even the strongest oak must bend to the winds of fate.

Will the fitted leather 629 holsters fit this gun perfectly?

JJHACK. YES THE SAME HOLSTER WILL WORK. THE MOST COMFORTABLE HOLSTER I HAVE FOUND IS THE DE SANTIS CROSSDRAW. YOU CAN WEAR IT ALL DAY EVEN WITH A FULL BACK PACK. IN RAIN YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR RAINCOAT ZIPPED UP FROM THE BOTTOM, THE GUN STAYS DRY AND YOU STILL HAVE INSTANT ACCESS. THERE IS A NUMBER ON THE BACK "016" WHICH MAY BE THE MODEL NUMBER, WITH "44" UNDERNEATH IT . THE HOLSTER HAS ENOUGH "RAKE" TO IT THAT IT DOES NOT BOTHER YOU IN STEEP COUNTRY.
