Looking for recommendations in regards to hardcast bullets. Want to reload my 460 and use bullets 340gr and higher for possible future buffalo hunt in Africa. Hardness obviously needs to be up there for penetration. Reload suggestions welcome as well

For large bovines at .460 velocities I would skip hardcast bullets and use Punch bullets. At more subdued velocities hardcast will function fine, but the velocity potential of the .460 is much greater than the material of the bullet can withstand without distorting. To take advantage of your velocity potential either a mono metal bullet like CEBs, or Lehighs or even better yet, the Punch bullet with give you a bit more insurance, particularly when you have an expensive trophy fee on the line, not to mention the fact that any large bovine can grind you into a grease stain on the ground. JMHO.

Here are the two solid offerings from Lehigh -- I don't know how the Phillips head screw driver tipped bullets will work as I have yet to test them.

I would second this. You might even go with buffalo bore barnes 275 gr loads for more damage. They give adequate penetration even on big bovines and the punch bullet and monometal solids are the top choices for penetration with the punch having the largest meplat and heavier weight. The term 460sw and hardcast dont go well together. Listen to whitworth on this one. We did extensive testing on large and dangerous testing at the bovine bash and the results were very conclusive. The punch and
Monometals are vastly superior.

This first photo shows a few cast bullets we recovered from bovines this last year. The noses are wiped off, which hurts straight line penetration.

This photo shows a Punch bullet (left) next to a CEB handgun solid (right).
