Gentlemen can you recommend a source or sources for some real Keith style cast SWC bullets.

A buddy of mine shot some of my Keith bullets, in his 44 Mag, cast in a H&G mold, I think the number is 503, and he would like to get some just like them.

[I am just to lazy to cast for anyone else Roll Eyes Frowner ]

Thanks
Thanks

Lyman 429421 is close and it might have changed back to the same as Keith designed after being fooled with. Thompson designs were better.
But all semi wad cutters have alignment problems at the forcing cone and the gun needs to be 100% perfect.
A RNFP or LBT style would shoot better.
The SWC was made to kill game with a meplat but also to cut a clean hole in a target. You do not need the target hole anymore. The shoulder only makes the boolit look nice. It is a crutch to bore alignment.

That's not what he asked. He simply asked for a source.

Thanks for the info.

Whitworth and Bfr, no need for a Hatfield and McCoy Fued.

My buddy just wants to know where he can get some good Keith bullets.

Why do suggestions get bashed?
Maybe you can find an H&G mold for him, I can't.
Again, is there better? How do you know? I have a lot of Keith type molds and boolits, do you want a mold cut for your guns? I thought not, you would scream on the range. I have a great .44 semi wad cutter for your S&W, looks like the only boolit you get from now on. This will be the only boolit for your Bisley Hunter too. Bring real lead wheel weights, not that junk zinc and aluminum scrap. My metal and time is getting too precious for getting bashed. Yes, I am angry, look at yourself!

Woah! Slow down hotrod!! I wasn't bashing you, I was merely pointing out that the man was looking for a source and not our opinions on "Keith-style" bullets. You, me, Veral Smith, and God know that there are better bullets, but he just wanted to know where/how he can get them. Sorry!

Now don't ask me to look at myself, I'm not a masochist!

Mount Baldy Bullets has a 250 and 300gn Keith 44 listed. They make great bullets, but something on their site doesn't agree with Internet Explorer, so I use Mozzila Firefox to visit their site.

A true Keith semi wadcutter in 44 caliber has a meplat of about .240" if the meplat is much bigger than that then it is not a true Keith semi wadcutter

bfrshooter, In my experience that shoulder cuts a nice full caliber hole through hide and meat -hardly worthless.

BTW the definition of a Keith bullet I accept is that which is described in Keith's "Sixguns" . Many claim to have "keith" bullets but always seem to be missing a few features !! Smiler

bfrshooter,

You got quoted, so I'll let Whitworth decide whether or not to take down his post. Yours is gone from this thread. You make another one like that and it will be gone. Soon as I get ahold of DRG, you may be as well.

Ok Gents,

What cast bullet design would you recommend instead if a Keith SWC, that weighs 240/250 grains?

This bullet would be for all round use with loads from 7 to 9.5 gr of Unique, and for 21 to 22 gr of 2400.

ie for practice, 2 legged defense, and for hunting/wild animal protection.

And why would these bullets be better than a Keith SWC?

The LBT LFN is my favorite profile. Saying that, there is nothing wrong with a Keith profile for the intended uses. I've shot a good deal of game and pests with it.

I have ordered from Montana Bullet Works, Beartooth and Leadheads. All make a Kieth style SWC and you can get different BHN and plain base or GC. All very good to deal wtih.

I shoot a lot of Mt. Baldy bullets. They are cast right and have good lube, not the wax/crayon style lube. All of my handguns (Rugers, S&W, FA) shoot Mt. Baldy's Keith bullets plenty good enough for me. I have taken deer and hog with them in 44mag, 44sp and 45colt.

I also shoot Mt Baldy bullets in my Sharps rifles. He will cast them 1-30 and size them to what you need.

I like Cast Performance's offerings a lot, and Double Tap has a beautiful 320 grain WFN that they cast and sell.

I use MBW as they are as fine as the others mentioned and typically cost a fair amout less. And, yes, I have used them all.

NE, I am late to this thread because I am working 12 hours a day six days a week, but I have the H&G 503 mould and am willing to cast for your friend. The problem is my moulds are in TX and I am in Wisconsin. If he can wait a couple of months I will cast for him when I get back home. I have cast for about 30 years and I do know what I am doing...

Just an offer. Let me know if I can help.

Regards.
