I have a Casull with a 7 1/2" barrel that I would like to take hog hunting. What holster and type (shoulder, hip....) do you prefer?

I have a super redhawk with a 9 1/2" barrel and a 2x scope that I use for white tail deer hunting. I prefer a cross draw shoulder holster. The one I have is from Uncle Mike's and cost about $50.00. It holds the pistol basically on your chest. It is very easy to quickly draw and fire. I had a hip holster, but things got in the way when trying to draw (coat, branch, etc.).

bob, I got one of the Uncle Mike's over at Bass Pro in Grapevine. I have a Raging Bull 8", and chose an under the shoulder holster. I can't remember the size, but they let you take them out and try them, and you can bring your pistol in for fit. Plus they will allow you to use one out of their case to try for fit. If you want to hook up and check mine out, let me know.

Scott, thanks for the info. I may take you up on the offer if it will ever slow down at work.

I took my 7 1/2" SRH 480 on my mooseless hunts this fall, and packed it on the hip. While a 4 5/8" or 5 1/2" gun isn't bad on the hip, 7 1/2" tubes are just too long. I still haven't picked up a shoulder rig yet, but thats the way to pack them.

Longbob, I carry my Ruger Bisley .45 Colt and Ruger Redhawk .44 mags in cross-draw holsters. The cross-draw holsters allow me to sit down freely, my arms are free to move, and the gun is easy to reach. George ------------------

Longbob; For a class firearm like your Freedom, you need a class holster. Here's what I put mine in: http://www.sanpedrosaddlery.com/shoulder.htm I particularly like the semi-shoulder / semi-across the chest style because it is very easy to reach when you need it, as opposed to a cross draw, shoulder or strong side. It is completely adjustable to fit over whatever clothing you will be wearing. And, it doesn't drag your pants down with the weight of the 454. I also had them make a spare cartridge holder that slides onto the shoulder strap so I and quickly reach for reloads and it looks cool to. I think I paid around $ 160 total for the semicustom outfit. ------------------
