Well I got the call Tuesday from Reeder Custom Guns that my 475 Linebaugh was done, and sent out. It got here today, and I was extremely pleased with the look and feel of the gun. I mounted a Leupold mount and dual dovetail rings with a Ultra-dot 1 inch tube one it. Now it is time to head to the range. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. Whitworth pic's sent. As soon as I get rid of the viral infection, and my head quits pounding, I will head to the range. I have not been able to work all week. I will give a report as soon as I get one. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. Marko, thanks for posting the pic's. Feeling a bit better today. Still not 100%. Peter, come on over and take it out, but you provide the ammo... I can't wait to get to the range, I have several hunderd rounds loaded up to try out, different loads. All the loads I have, work great in my Encore barrel in 475 Linebaugh. I got a sample load from Cartridge Performance Engineering. He wanted me to try out a lighter bullet 330 gr. for plinking loads. My loads are all 400 gr.Hard Cast (MBW)bullets. H110,26.0 gr. Federal 155 1.770 H110,25.0 gr. Federal 155 1.770 H110,24.0 gr. Federal 155 1.770 If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. You're definietly on the right track with those loads. Bfrshooter's .475 love 26 grains of 296 under the 420 grainer while mine likes 26.5 -- the groups tightened up a bit with that extra half grain of powder. Can't wait to hear how it shoots! Redhawk brought it over for me to play with today. The custom gun makers sure can make a gun a sweet thing to hold. The grips and the frame are seamless. I was a bit surprised that full cock took the hammer back to where it almost touched the frame. Trigger pull was smooth as silk. He bought a sweet piece of leather with it as well. He still dicked it up, however. Had his initials engraved on it. How the hell am I ever going to trade with him and his initials are branded in that stainless??? RETIRED Taxidermist

It is going up as my back up, I decided to use my bow this year. Nothing like up and close with a bow. But don't get it twisted, I will pull out the 475 Linebaugh if I can't see my bow sights, and have a big bear in front of me, in the low light condition. Too many times low light and not being able to take a shot on an animal has cost me a nice animal with my bow. I never shot a black bear with a bow, but if I can I will this year. If not the 475 will get the nod. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. The reason is a difference in twist rate. There is a 1/2 gr change. The slower twist of Marko's gun needs a little more velocity. For the 400 gr I would be carefully going UP from 26 gr.

There you go again with that twist rate nonsense. Just kidding! What isthe tist rate of your Reeder, Redhawk? Are you feeling well enough to get out to the range? Whitworth, I don't know off hand what the twist rate is, but I will find out from Gary. George and I went to the range for a quick trip, I shot 5 shots and got the gun on paper at 25 yards. I started shooting to fine tune the gun, when we kept getting bullets not moving when the sight was adjusted, then I noticed that the front of the scope mound was sitting a little up off the frame, my first thought I did not tighten the screws down and they backed out. I went to the truck and took out my tools and removed the Ultra-dot. The screws were tight. So I took off the scope mound and found the screws were bottoming out in the drilled and tapped holes. I should of checked this when I mounted the scope mount in the first place. Well seeing's how I did not have a belt sander in the truck to shorten the mount screws, I put the gun up, while George shot his 460 Mag. We went to Georges house, and I took the screws to a belt sander and took 2 threads off the screws and tried the screws and made sure the mount was flush. All was well, so remounted the Ultra-dot and George and I headed back to the range. I did a few shots to get the gun back on paper and then we started making adjustments. I got the gun shooting 2 inch groups without the use of a rest, I was supporting my hand on a rail. George shot the gun, and he got the same 2 inch groups off the rail. I told him I needed to get a pistol rest so I can actually shot the gun for a good group. So I will go back some time this week if I get a chance and shoot the gun off a better rest. Over all I was happy so far with the performance. I was shooting the 26.0 gr. oh H 110. I also shot the 330 gr. loads from Cartridge Performance Engineering. They shot a very good group but were powder puffs compared to my 400 gr. load. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. The 400 gr Lee boolit will hold an inch at 50 yd with 26.5 gr of 296 or 15 gr of HS-6. This last load is very pleasant to shoot. You might like it better with the Bisley grip. I just can't shoot a Bisley, it beats my knuckle. Rubber grips made it tolerable. Long ago I gave up beauty for function. Fancy grips are for pictures or to show off the gun but at the range they are no longer pretty. Some go to a gun shop to buy a can of pain!

bfrshooter, you must have the same problem I do: my hands are just too damned big. It's funny you said that. Redhawk shot it a couple dozen times with no problems (other than the scope mounts - and we really weren't trying to fine tune it, just shoot it). He asked if I wanted to punch a few holes and I'd never pass up shooting a boomer. First round, busted middle finger, second knuckle. Second round, more of the same. The little light went on and though I had two rounds within one inch, I twisted the grip a bit in my hands to keep from beating that knuckle all to hell. My group fell apart but at least my knuckle wasn't bleeding. (My .500 S&W beats hell out of that knuckle as well, however.) RETIRED Taxidermist

I had the same problem shooting 325 grain loads from a Super Blackhawk. They were bear loads for a trip to Colorado. I decided I was going to be sure of the bear's intentions before I started shooting. If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. I have the same problem with the SBH and NEED Pachmeyer grips. After many years of shooting the rubber is worn away from my middle knuckle rubbing it. But the Bisley is just plain PAIN!
