Pan lube

Does anyone pan lube cast bullets and run them through a Lee sizing die? What lube works good for you? I have a Lyman 450 but when I only need to size a few I'd like to try pan lubing rather than change the die in my Lyman. I tumble lube some using Lee Liquid Alox, but this doesn't seem to leave enough lube for a
475 or 500 bullet. Any ideas?

I gave up my lyman sizer and gave up using a pan and now just use Liquid Alox. If I think a bullet needs more lube I just Alox then a couple differant times.

Yep, I've done that.

I had a OLD Ruger with oversize throats in 45 colt. I pan lubed them and used a nylon hose barb I'd eased out a bit with a tapered reamer.
I relieved it from the top side and left the bottom a bit snug. It "cut" the lube well and provided a bit of release for the bullets it spit out the top. It worked just fine. The mold dropped out at .455+ depending on the alloy and worked nicely in the .455 throats I was shooting them in.
If I needed them for any other 45, I just run them through the Lee .452 and all was well.

I usually make my own lube, but I will say you can't get much better than Glen Larson's White Label Lube. Any more I keep his BAC and Red on hand. Great Family. He's here on the forum as well.

Pan lubing seems to go better with the softer lubes like 50-50. Our Carnauba Red can be pan lubed, but it is a pain to do. It sticks to the bullets very well, but also sticks to the pan so the bullets need to be cut out while the lube is still warm.
The Lee push through sizers are very easy to use and seem to do a good job. I've used them to size 535gn .460" bullets down to .452".

For cutting the bullets out, there is a great tool called the Wax Miester

It is very well made and easy to use.
Here's a writeup on it.

Hope this helps

Before I got my lyman sizer I used to smear lube in the grooves then run it through a lee sizer. I used a 50/50 mix of beeswax and moly/lythium axle grease. Nice and soft and will fill out shallow lee grooves just as well as deeper more conventional grooves.

But after getting the lyman sizer I was sick and tired of the mess and trouble so have used the lyman for everything since then. I think you'll find by the time you melt the lube in a pan, wait for it to cool, cut the bullets out one by one you'd have swapped out the die and top punch in the lyman and have lube/sized all your bullets.

Lar45 makes great lubes but you need enough to pan lube. It works fine. Lee dies work and make boolits more round the lube sizers.
This is my home made cake cutter and I made many for other calibers.
LLA is something I will never use. It will diesel or burn in the bore. Nothing has given me more poor accuracy or leading
