For my next handgun I'm considering a Glock 36 in 45 ACP.Is this a wise choice or would I be better off with a heavier gun?

Depends on what you plan on doing with this gun. If you plan on hunting deer with it, then I would say get a bigger gun.

Shoot one first before you buy, preferably with whatever ammo you plan to use. Glock 36's aren't exactly the softest shooting gun around. The one I shot was quite a handful. I passed on it.

Glock's suck. They have that nice "square feel" of a 2x4 and I have a friend who has had TWO frames crack in his 9mm Glocks.

Definately get a real pistol if you're going to get one.

Don't be fooled by the fact a lot of police departments use them. Glocks were picked by bean counters in the department and not the guys who know firearms.

Most any major brand of pistol maker's would be a far better choice. Smith, Colt and Sig come instantly to mind.

I have a Glock 36 and find it very shootable with hardball and capable of close to 3 inches at 25 yards offhand, which is about as well as I can shoot from my hind legs. To me, the recoil is very manageable -- surprisingly so considering how light the gun is. I have only had Glocks in .40 and .45, as I don't believe in 9mm, so can't say anything about Glock parts failures in that caliber. I like them, but they are clearly not everyone's cup of tea. I have a CC permit, and find the 36 is very concealable and comfortable to carry, and it fits my hand even better than the sainted 1911.
