The 1911 is a classic self defense handgun, but they are also right at home in the hunting fields. I have taken too many small game animals with mine to count and have even taken Deer as well and as always they worked to perfection just as John Browning designed them to.

How many of you have hunted with your 1911 semi auto?

I have shot a lot of small game with a 1911.

Shot a few dogs as well.
Also shot some turkeys, whitetail deer and one mule deer.

Shot snakes with the Remington and Speer shotshells, shot small game and a bunch of grouse with the Speer shotshells.

The 1911 in 45 ACP is one of my most favorite handguns.

However it is not near as effective on deer sized and up game as a 44 Mag.

As much as I like the 1911, I prefer a 44 Mag for a "field gun".

I have shot one deer with my 1911 45 ACP. Shot placement is key.
But for hunting, I really prefer my revolvers. I would also choose my LAR Grizzly in 45 Win Mag over the 45 ACP. The LAR Grizzly is basically a large 1911.

I've shot most everything around here with mine. Has always worked fine on game up to and including deer.

If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out.

I have not, but I just got my first Colt 1911 this year. After a life time of wanting one. I was going to ask if it should be tried just for the fun of it. Now I know.

The 45 Win Mag hand loaded, rates up there with the 44 Mag and a hot 45 Colt.
