I'm thinking of getting some of these for practice, but with all the info I see about bullets must match bore diamter and one must make the bullet that fits your gun, would this be a good idea or should I invest in casting my own? I'd rather just buy them and shoot than speend my shooting time making bullets.

In the old days (when I started reloading) most wheelers had oversize throats and commercial cast bullets were only available in standard diameters with plain bases. The result was terrible leading and mediocre accuracy. Modern guns usually, but not always, have decent dimensions and are more apt to be cast friendly. Also, gas checked cast bullets are now readily available. So you are more likely to meet with success. Whether you cast your own or use storebought, you should know your gun's throat dimension and attempt to match the bullet diameter to it. I can't offer any specific advice without knowing more about your gun.

I have found most bulk cast bullets are meant for mild to medium loads. Personally, I wouldn't get just too hung up on bullet diameter versus throat and bore dimensions for plinking loads. Just remember that a hard cast bullet driven too slow may lead just as bad as a soft bullet driven too hard. Bevel base bullets tend to lead worse than do plain base bullets. You haven't mentioned caliber, but in most cases; a .38 Special or .357 Mag is going to shoot a .358" diameter bullet fairly well. I have seen Rugers that would not shoot well with any bullet smaller than .432". Most .45 shoot .452" bullets fairly well also. I suggest you get some of the bullets you want to try and shoot them. Worst thing you will have to do is clean the lead out of your barrel. I have shot a many bulk cast bullet through my handguns with only a lot of fun to show for it. If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out.
