Anybody got the details on how this compaires to the SW 500 or the 500 Linebaugh? I guess the FA version is a belted case....seems strange for a revolver. ****************************************************************** R. It is a powerful cartridge 440gr at 1450 fps, case length 1.285"?,but the SW 500 is 440gr at 1650 fps caselength 1.615". It compares very well to the 500 linebaugh I have a Clements Custom SBH 50 (SW500-1.4" case)same ballistics as the FA 500WE. Sean

According to the Freedom Arms website, the maximum case length is 1.370" with a trim length of 1.365" Bart

Based on what I have read and very limited experience with same; the 500WE is very close to the .500 Linebaugh in performacne. The 500 S&W and 500 Linebaugh Long (Max) are similar. My preference is toward the Linebaugh on a Bisley platform or the Model 83 FA as I can wear these revolvers all day and not wind up walking like the Hunchback of Notre Dame, dragging my leg behind me. If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out.

That sounds right,I couldn't remember that is why I put a question mark by it.The 1.285" might be the 500 JRS round. Sean

Looking at the revolver cylinder, it appears to be the same as the 454. That being said, I don't think they could have gotten 5 rimmed 50's in the same cylinder. Then again, you can say you have the only belted magnum pistol. The bad news is, you have the only belted magnum pistol and the brass may be hard to get if the concept doesn't catch on.... John

The 500 JRH is a rimmed cartridge and it fits perfectly in Freedom Arms revolver.Magnum Reaserch is chambering the 500 JRH in their BFR revolvers from the custom shop _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

the new FA 500 compares to the 500 Linebaugh. the 500 Linebaugh Max compares to the S&W 500 in length. They went with a new belted case because the 500 Linebaugh rimmed case has too large a rim dia to fit in the FA cylinders. FA uses an larger dia oversized ratchet on their cylinders than does Ruger and/or BFR. The current loading for the 50 AE will be dropped from their line. The 50 AE case headspaces on the case mouth and cannot be crimped to handle the recoil of the bigger loads, hince it was not worth streaching that case.

475/480 Actually the .500 JRH is the same length as the .500 Linebaugh..1.4" You are probably thinking of the .500 S&W Special. It is the .500 S&W mag with a length of 1.285" Bart

What a great cartridge. I've always wanted a FA S/A and when I finally get one it'll be in .500 W.E. And I like the belt! Dennis "Five beans in the wheel"
