If I were to get one it would be the long cylinder version in 444 Marlin. Not because it would be particularly useful in that caliber, but because it is fairly unique.
had a .480 for a couple months sold it at a loss. I though it was to big the fit and finish wasnt up to the price the grips were terrible for heavy recoil the sights sucked the trigger was poor. Youd be better off getting a ruger bisley and sending it to Clemments for the same money youd have a much better gun!

I am far from a rich man I am a lineman for the power co. I own two linebaugh guns because I scrimped and scraped until I could afford them. The .480 was bought to be rechambered to .475 before they made them. Like you I thought Id save a few bucks but when I got it I new it was an overpriced ugly gun and no matter what I would do to it it would never compare to my .500. I guarentee you one thing if you ever handled or shot a linebaugh a clements Huntington or clemments or even a FA gun you would never buy that thing. quit eating get a second job rob a bank anything but do yourself a big favor and buy a good one. Ps If you ever have a problem with that gun good luck all I got from there service dept was a big runaround. Linebaughs guns are warantied for life anything goes wrong he fixes it and does it right! The gun in my opinion is no better then a ruger at twice the price! Youd be better off with a super redhawk in .454 or .480! Just my opinion

Are you into Dave Clements's conversion now? David does line bored chambering only with his 5-shot conversions and I thought that you did not care for the line bored chambering. If I remember correctly, you said that this method was used to cover up the lousy work. For me, David's work is better than anyone else for the money in the sixgun circle. I have several guns built by both Clements and Bowen and I can tell you that David would be my first choice if I need to have another built. Have fun. Cheers! Ming

For a few hundred bucks more, you would be better off with a Freedom Arms Field Grade. I have seen a new FA Field Grade sold for around $1000 at Gunbroker. The only way I would be attracting to the BFR product is their 45-70 revolver as it is a truly unique gun. As I have reported before, the BFR 45-70 that I saw was a very well made gun. Good luck.
MS Hitman is a very wise man as he knows FA is the best out there. For around $1200 for a Field Grade and around $1600 for a Premiere Grade, I don't think anybody could have a custom revolver built by any big name master sixgunsmith any cheaper or better.
Have fun guys! Cheers! Ming

I have two guns that Im going to send him in the next couple weeks one is a new model blackhawk in .41 mag that Im have cut to 4" roundbutted with a set of burl walnut grips bowen sights free wheeled bisley hammer and case hardened and tightened up the other is a 3 screw .357 that Im haveing the same thing done to with the exception of the freewheeling and the bisley hammer and that one is being rechambered to .44 special. I have heard alot of good things about his work and John is a busy man. I am sending him a stainless bisley vaquaro to make into a 4 inch .500 also but that one will take a while to get completed as the money tree is dieing!! Thanks for the advise on his quality it makes me feel better when someone like you recomends him. Ill still stick to my guns though that youd play hell getting a handgun to shoot any more accurately then one of Johns no matter what you do to it. My linebaughs are the most accurate sixguns I own or have shot

I owned a .45-70 BFR for a few months. I was very pleased with it. The quality (fit and finish) was superb, and the gun shot very well. It was easily the most accurate iron-sighted pistol I had ever shot. While it did have some recoil, I feel that it was very light given the cartridge. I've shot several .44 magnums, .454 Casulls, etc, and the BFR was significantly lighter recoiling than any of the above. The recoil is a smooth push. I assure you that if you shoot one you'll be pleasantly suprised by how light it is.
My gripes? I think the factory grips looked somewhat cheap. They performed fine--but they just LOOKED "off" somehow. BTW, Hogue makes a set of very nice wood grips for the BFR.
I sold the BFR to a buddy of mine. I had no problems with it, but I wanted a BIG boomin' pistol, and the BFR just was just too mild. I ordered a custom Thompson Encore from SSK chambered in .450 Nitro Express.
I've had my 10" 45-70 BFR for 3 years.Shot a couple of thousand heavy rounds through it.I recently sent it back to Magnum Research to have the ejector rod replaced.Even though the 1 year warranty expired 2 years ago they replaced the ejector rod,re-timed the cylinder, installed a new style cylinder base pin,(cleaned the pistol so well I checked the serial # to see if they had sent me a new gun)put it in a new box & sent it right to my door via next day Fed Ex!All for free.Pretty good customer service IMHO! It originally came with Uncle Mikes rubber grips which I've never had reason to change.I'm happy with the trigger, fit & finish overall.I'll admit it's not a FA or a Linebaugh but it didn't cost nearly as much either. Just my .02 worth-your results may differ. Randy in Phx.
