I finally got a BFR in 45-70 thanks to some friends. My question is being new to the BFR 45-70,is there any problem using a .460 diameter cast in the BFR?

I wouldn't think so and I have a few hundred of them for my Guide Gun but to date all I have shot is the .459 Cast Performance in 420 grains.

What a fine handgun. It is everything I expected plus some.

Not as long as you can chamber a loaded round.
You can always size them if too large.
The throats are .4595" and groove size is .458".
If your boolit has to enter the throats you won't chamber them.

Any particular brand of cast work better that others in your BFR?I just talked to Marshal Stanton of Beartooth bullets and he said most of his customers use the .458 Diameter in the BFR but from what I have seen, the Cast Performance sized to supposedly .459 worked alright although I have no idea about the pressure an oversized bullet might create or not create.

Any favorite cast?Cast Performance seems to be higher now than most others right up there with fairly good jacketed bullets like the 300 grain Speer Unicore.

Jacketed or Cast in the BFR?

Thanks..Jayco

Call Dave at Montana Bullet works, he will make them the size you want. That is what I use in my 45-70 BFR. The 405 gr. hard cast with gas checks at .458.

I have always had good luck with the advice that I got from Veral Smith back around 86 and that is "if it will chamber shoot it and let the barrel size it"...
