I small amount it shows up at the end of the barrel, but it has to do with the lube quantity not the wheel weights.I have shot WW up to 1800 fps in the SW 500 with (gas checks) with good lube and no leading,On this mould design I should have made the lube grooves a little bigger but it shoots very good at 50 yds so I use it for hunting.

Sean,

Congratulations! Handgun hunting is lots of fun, isn't it.

(I amost match your ballistics with the 500 grain FPGC cast bullet loads in the Searcy .470 NE double rifle ... and last year it killed a decent deer very nicely. Good old 45-70 equivalent works pretty well, regardless of barrel length.)

Must admit that my searching for perfection in handgun hunting tools was stopped early on by an M57 Smith in 41 Mag. Pistol was made in the early 60's when Smith made a very nice pistol. With a 2x Leupold on a Beuhler mount, the little fella has been so effective on deer that I've not needed to look further. Try to do one a year that way ... if I can put one in front of it, it goes to the freezer ;>Wink

Best,

I killed my first deer with my 8" 500 a few weeks ago, the only bones I hit were ribs, and the deer dropped in its tracks. 275 grain Barnes X. A friend of mine is a BIG advocate of casting bullets, but I'm pretty sold on the performance of those jacketed bullets. He's shot deer and they routinely run all over the place after double lung shots, while I have the same placement, and they drop in their tracks. I get no leading, flatter shooting (faster), the only downside I see is cost, but I don't have to screw around with casting either.

I think I'd really like a cast lead bullet if I (1.) shot a heckuva lot more to reduce cost or (2.) wanted a bear stopper where excessive penetration without expansion wasn't a possibility. For deer & especially elk, I want expansion and energy transfer out of the bullet.
