Hunting in Illinois during the first gun season, I managed to take this nice 9-pointer with my BFR 454 Casull 5 inch. Range was 18 yards, and the load was my handload of the Missouri Bullets 325 gr Slammer @ 1100 fps in 45 Colt nickeled brass. The UltraDot 30 red dot sight was used as well.
Shot through the neck, his front end collapsed, and he then rolled over onto his side. After a couple of minutes I thought he was finished, but when I moved toward him, he pushed with his hind legs and slid forward about 6 feet. As I got closer to put in a finishing shot, he did this about four more times. I finally got close enough to put one through his ribs up into the chest, and he quit. Whitetail bucks always amaze me with how tough they are.
