Had to share this with you guys Big Grin
Last Saturday I went over to a ranch I sometimes help out on. The rancher had just moved cattle to another pasture. Stopped by the house and he drags out his latest rig, a Remington 700 AAC-SD .308 with a Blackhawk! rail mount and a Burris Eliminator III laser rangefinding scope. He said, "You've got to try this!"
I sat down at the bench, he pointed out a little-bigger-than-a-football-sized white rock out on the side of a distant hill and told me to shoot it. Load was a 168 Nosler match bullet.
I laid the crosshairs on said rock, punched the button and got a reading of 343 yards. A little LED light came on below the crosshairs and he told me to put the light on the rock and let 'er rip.
I did and wonder of wonders, white dust flew from the rock with a direct hit, first round, first time I ever handled the rifle. I complimented him on his fine rig and mentioned that the local coyotes had better be on their guard.

I then whipped out my latest acquistion:

a John Linebaugh five-shot.45 Colt 5.5" Bisley conversion (#38)that I won at auction online a month or two back.
Had a load of RCBS 45-255-SWC cast from wheelweights, over 10.0 Unique at about 1100 FPS poked in the cylinder.

He thought I was wasting my time and ammo.

No way." he smirked.

First round low, second round high, 4th and sixth round within 2-3 feet. Round # 5 was a center hit!

"Do that again." he said.

So the next cylinder full, 4 were real close and one was a solid hit with resulting white dust.

I ceremoniously blew the smoke from the muzzle.

"When you didn't hit it, you were scaring it!" He shook his head.

I had to grin and give him a little crap about his fancy shooter.

But I'm sure liking this Linebaugh! What a fun rig!

Now the purpose of this post is not to brag, but to get some of the younger guys more involved in long range sixgunning (I mean rock hunting. This is the handgun hunting forum.) Wink It can be done. AND it's lots of fun to get lucky on occasion in front of witnesses.

Nice shooting.... Long range handgun shooting is fun... Used to do a lot of it now just getting back into it....

Very beautiful gun you won...could never understand why someone builds something like that and then goes and sells it....

RJM,
I was thinking the same thing when I found it for sale.
But I'm sure glad I got it.
Seems I'm stocking up on Bisleys lately.

Let's try this again at what I consider long range Wink

Don't let me shoot a pistol though...I'll make a fool of myself.

Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!

Recent college grad, started a company called MK Machining where I'm developing a bullpup rifle chassis system.

So, wrong forum I know, but has anyone tried the Burris Eliminator? I don't mean hitting a rock at 300 yards, I mean shooting at a target at various ranges (say up to 600 yards) to see exactly how accurate the targeting guidance is? Looks like it might be a really good system.
