MM, I personally prefer the SRH. I have shot the RB and I'm not a fan of the porting, nor of the awkward double latch system to unlock the cylinder. Again, it's just a personal preference, but I like the SRH better, and you would be hard pressed to find a more durable/indestructable revolver.

well, i've owned two raging bull revolvers. in general the triggers weren't too good. design is great as far as recoil is concerned but......and this is the deal killer. they both repeatedly broke. there's a design flaw on the way it locks up at the shot when the trigger is pulled. they will always break at one point or another if you shoot alot. i talked to the owner of one of the largest gun stores in anchorage alaska. they had carried them there, this was around 2000 i think. anyway, they quit carrying them because as he put it, "we did not sell one that was not sent back for warranty work." he said they sold a hundered or so when they first came out. my later RB was better as far as fit and finish goes but the same design flaw was there and it was still a matter of time before it broke, after the second send off for warranty work at 6weeks per pop i let go of the gun and stepped up to a freedom arms and haven't looked back. with FA, the bfr, and the super redhawk i'd never even give the taurus a second look now.

My best friend hunting partner has a Raging Bull in 454. Has over 5000 rounds through it with no problems. I would take one over a Redhawk. The redhawks I have shot have poor grips that don't fit me and an action that feels like it has sand in it. If available-- (but they don't make a .480) -I'd go for a Smith & Wesson.

Kinda what I figured I was gonna hear.
But figured it would not hurt to ask.
Thanks for the input guys. I'm looking for the best deal I can find on a SRH. There is a used one on the gunbroker, but no mention if the rings are with it.

Redhawk or Super Redhawk--- still the same for me, grips too small for my hand and an action too gritty.

I've never shot a raging bull, have handled a few and was turned off by the double latch and I can't stand muzzle brakes, especially on handguns.

I have shot several redhawks, and super redhawks in various chamberings.

As mentioned the redhawk and super redhawk are different guns. The grips are different, and how they feel in recoil is different. The best grip IMHO for the srh is the new hogue grip. The factory ruger grip isn't too bad once you learn how to grip it, but I've mashed my knuckle on my index finger in recoil, and opened up the skin on my thumb where the frame extends above the factory grip.

As to triggers, I've shot several srh's in 454 and 480. For whatever reason, the 454's seem to have gritty triggers from the factory. All the 480's I shot were pretty smooth. I did put a spring kit in my 480 srh to lighten up the action, but I was getting an occasional hangfire when shooting in sub zero temps, so I went back to the factory springs.

I lost track of how many rounds I put through my 480 4000+ It's the best revolver I've ownded, very accurate and reliable. I just need to keep my eyes out for another one.

I have a 454 Raging bull and think it is great. I have shot several hundred rounds through it and I am not sure if the trigger has been worked on or not but it is the best handgun trigger I have shot. It is light and smooth, makes shooting very easy.

I put some 45 colt loads in it and my 7 and 8 years olds shot a cylinder full each. Big Grin

A friend of mine has the 454 Ruger and says it kicks like a beyoch. I am glad I dont have that problem with my RB.

As Paul mentioned, the grip frames of these two revolvers differ significantly. Here's a photo of a Redhawk grip and next to it is a stock Super Redhawk grip. It's not that noticeable in the photo, but they feel quite different.

What is "Gritty"? I have never shot a SRH with a bad feel. All were smooth as glass with super triggers. The one I had could not be improved by anyone and I never had to work on it, A 2# trigger pull that broke like glass.
You can change grips too.

I've only had one SRH that didn't have a great trigger from the factory -- it was smooth, but really heavy, but bfrshooter fixed it and now it's really slick.

Well thanks guys.
I have decides on the SRH in 480. And one of the guys here on the AR board has offered one to me at a VERY nice price. Just trying to get the money together. I have never owned a SRH but have shot one in 44 that a friend hunts with, and thought his trigger was as good as my S&W 41 mag. And people always ask me who did the trigger job on mine. It's factory.

Great choice, MM! You will be happy with your purchase, I am sure. I believe that load development has already been done on that gun as well...... thumb
