GSP7Im researching the Ruger, Taurus tracker, S&W mountain gun. Then 44mag or 45 colt.
Thinking factory loads though I have some 45 colt dies I have only reloaded snake loads for pistols and only have a rifle press not a production pistol press.
Not sure of avalibility of 45 colt heavy loads, I just find cowboy loads
Looking for a carry gun.

TBEAR99another vote for ruger i'm not gonna knock the taurus but as far as heavy 45 loads i believe you have to reload or go specailty cause too many old weak 45's still out there that can't handle hot loads
I shoot garret 330 grn hard 44 mag and garret says not to use in any guns exept ruger or dan wesson double action if that is any indicator of strehgth of ruger's

drewhenrytntRuger. Fairly stout .45 Colt loads can be had from CorBon, Buffalo Bore, and RBCD. PMC also makes a ridiculously hot Colt load-it is a little dirty though.

RMillerI think it depends what you are going to use it for. Do you plan on using a lot of heavy loads?
I like the tracker the best it is lightweight and with the grips and the porting I dont think it kicks any harder than any other 4" revolver.
I have come up with some heavier bullet loads by reloading described in other thread. Mostly I shoot 210's or 220 at 1050 for practice.
The factory jacketed bullets I have shot in it 210, 240's seem to me to kick the worst. My heavier loads do not kick any harder. The practice load I have kicks a lot less.
If you expect to shoot nothing but 300+ grains in your 44 then get a large frame revolver. Those 300 grain sierras are what I shot in my first large frame 44 mag. Llama super comanche 20 years ago. I have a box of those bullets now for when I get my next large frame 44 mag.
Just my 1.5 cents.

nordrsetaBetween the Taurus and the Redhawk I'd take the Ruger. Between the Tracker and the Mountain Gun I'd choose the S&W. If you're going to shoot a lot get the Redhawk. If you want a "holster it and forget it until you need it" sort of pistol get the Mtn Gun. As for chamberings, I rarely shoot full power 44 magnum ammo in my 629 so on reflection the 45 Colt version would have made a little more sense.
