My favorites so far have been the Browning Buckmarks; not fancy but accurate, reliable, and just plain fit my hand nicely... Regards, Kevin

The Woodsman was the first gun I ever fired. My dad won the state pistol champ. with one long ago. I have a few of them. I have shot a lot of things with the Woodsman. When the Ruger .22 came out it killed the sales of the Woodsman. The Ruger sold for $37.50 and the Colt for about $75. It's my favorite by far.

A tough call, but a pre-sell out K-22 would probably be at the top.

Ruger Mark II target pistol. Heavy barrel but easy to point and shoot. Takes any ammo I throw in it. Extra mags sell for $10. Leif

Well it was realy my dads, but he even refured to it as mine. It was an old High Standerd he got in college when he dated my mother. He treid in vain for years to pin the rear sight to no avail. We just learded to shoot it instictivly. I got pretty good with it to. But it was stolen along with a lot of other guns when he was robbed four years ago;( I would trade any ten others to have it back just for the memories. Ruger 6-7/8" side slab with a Millet red dot scope. I use Winchester Power Points. This combo is acurrate and deadly. Farthest kill was 80yds. on a ground squirrel. 50yds. at a rockchuck. I have a custom hip holster for it that covers the red dot scope. Mark

My absolute favorite, but probably not the most accurate was my fathers Browning 'Nomad'. More sm. game has fallen to that pistol than any other I have had the pleasure to hunt with. And the memories of learning to pistol hunt with him are priceless.

Ruger Mark II Target Model in SS. I like the longer barrel for the extended sight radius. I got it not to long ago so I couldn't keep blaming my friend's son kicking my butt in .22 games on the pistol I was shooting. Hate to admit it, but he is still kicking my butt. Slim

gone hunting, My dad used to shoot a brick a week with a sport model Woodsman down at the police dept range. When I would be in the car as a kid with my dad driving and he went by a traffic cop they would raise up their arms and make a pistol out of their fingers. I was really something. He was really good with that little Woodsman. One of the Woodsman I have is a 2nd model Match Target with the bullseye and elephant ear grips. I still carry a Woodsman in my back pocket when I hunt with a long gun.

I stopped by the local gunsmith last month to ask him about triggers. I told him I was going to sell my Ruger .22-45 and buy a Buckmark for accuracy, trigger, and scope mounting advantages. He just shook his head. "Don't do it. If you want a target pistol, get the Ruger slabside. You can throw in an aftermarket match trigger, and they are more accurate. I was shocked. I expected the Browning to be better all around. Any other opinions out there? Rick.

Have owned at one time or other: H&R Model 999 (or 939 Ultra or something like that 9 shot break open model) Browning Challenger Two Browning Buckmarks Colt Woodsman Colt Trooper MkIII 6 (awful heavy for a .22) T/C Contender .22 LR 10" Two or three S&W Model 17 6 revolvers Two S&W Model 18 4 revolvers S&W Model 41 Two S&W Model 63 stainless kit guns (first one was stolen) Ruger Single Six Convertible Ruger MkII 10 Silhouette model Ruger MkII 6 7/8 stainless fixed sights Ruger MkII Govt. Target Ruger MkII 5 bull barrel Favorite is the Ruger MkII 5 bull barrel. Balances well, very, very accurate, great sights. Trigger is okay but not great, will put in a Volquartsen sometime soon. Funnest plinker I can think of and accurate enough for ground squirrels out to 50 yards or so. The pistol is more accurate than I am by far, 50 yards is about as far away as I can hit with open sights anymore. Did not say it was the best of the lot, I'd give that honor to the S&W Model 41. But you wanted to know my most favorite. [This message has been edited by Jim in Idaho (edited 01-15-2002).]

I don't own it, and I can't buy it, but my father has my favorite 22. It is a bicentennial model mark I Ruger, 6 7/8" barrel. I learned to shoot a handgun with it. We would get a brick of bullets and go to the river. I have seen him make some amazing shots with it. My next pick would be my Ruger mark I bull barrel. Good luck and good shooting
