This may be somewhat off topic but I was wondering if someone on this forum has any direct firsthand experience with the Colt Double Eagle .45. A shop here in town has one and I was thinking of picking it up. If I do it will be a defense weapon. I know there are a several cops and ex-cops on this forum. I was hoping someone could give me an opinion based on experience. Such as is this gun dependable to stake your welfare on?

First find out if this is the 1st or 2nd model Double Eagle. The 1st run had some problems. One of the design flaws was a flat spring hidden behind the grips. If the grips broke the gun became unopperable. I believe this was corrected in the 2nd run. I fired one on a range and it was accurate and felt good in my hand. I prefered the Glock .45, but that was a personal thing. Colt did make a limited run of a special Police version of the Double Eagle that was very accurate. Hope this helped.

TheeBadOne,
Your information is a big help. Thank you. How can a person tell if it is a first or second run?

I believe the the 1st run was just called the Double Eagle, and the second run should have a II or some such thing after the Double Eagle.
