I've been loading rifle cartridges for 20-years, but have never really loaded any handgun cartridges. I'm starting on the 45 Colt, but it seems that the amount of powder used (generally speaking) leaves quite a bit of air space in these cases - which makes me think about powder positioning and varrying results. Does anyone use a filler in handgun cartridges to keep the powder in place?

Chris Using regular pistol powders you do not use a filler. Even with light charges of fast burning powders such as Bullesys. As long as the load you are using is in a loading book listed for the type of 45 Colt you have you will be OK. Just do not use the heavier Ruger Blackhawk loads in a Colt SAA or a S&W Mod 25. Yup, no filler necessary. Chris, you've been playing with NEs too long!! "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." JWP If stupidity hurt, a lot of people would be walking around screaming. Semper Fidelis "Building Carpal Tunnel one round at a time"

Back in my young and foolish days I tried cotton for filler. When I shot, whisps of cotton came out of the end of the barrel and floated around. It kind of made me feel I was shooting a sissy gun.
