I just picked up a Volquartsen V-Magic II which is on a Ruger MKII. It came with a cratered (that's Southern for NG) Millet 2,4,6,8 red dot on it. I had a NIB Tasco (I know, I know) that I had bought on "close out" when they went broke (one of the times) two or three years back. I didn't pay much for it, $30 or $40 bucks, but I might as well have burned the money. It won't adjust, pistol shoots good tight groups at 25 yds. even with the Wally world type ammo I was using to get on target but I can't move groups, or at least you can't move them with any degree of certainty where they'll go, move it down, it moves up, etc. Oh well, if you buy a cheap POS you deserve what you get, a cheap POS. At any rate, to the point, chunking the Tasco, I still want to go with a red dot. I've got plenty of pistol scopes lying around but only a couple of red dots and I don't want to scavenge them off of what they're on. Based on what I've read in here, the Ultra Dot line seems good and reasonably priced. The question is, should I get the Ultradot 30 with it's fixed 4 MOA dot, the Ultradot 4 with 4,8,12,16 dots, or the Matchdot with 2,4,6,8 MOA dots? The pistol will mostly be used for plinking and squirrel hunting. I'm leaning towards the Matchdot since I can't see what good a 16MOA dot would do for my purposes, and I prefer the option of the different sizes. Any knowledgeable opinions or advice would be greatly accepted and evaluated. TIA. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. Opps, typing phonetically, I know it's supposed to be "Red Dot Sight" but I can't change it now. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. For plinking, you really can't go wrong with the 30. I have one on my .475 and it works like a charm. Plus, it's $139.00 shipped with a lifetime warranty. I am very happy with mine. All of them are a little tricky to adjust. They have a small tube in them and if you go too far in one direction, it will start to move POI in the other. Like too much windage will start to move elevation too. You have to just play with them. I never believe the clicks either. I haven't seen many red dots or scopes lately that move the amount is says. Not like the old scopes that said 1/4" per click and you could bet your last dollar on it. | |||

I have 3 Ultra-dots, two are the Match-dots and one is a 25 mm tube. I prefer the Match dots. When I go to the range and want to shoot groups, and load development, the 2 MOA dot works great for pin point shooting. I also use the 2 MOA for hunting, when low light conditions occur, I can see the dot very well and it is not to big in the sight. Also I can turn up the dot size in the brighter light of the day, as well as the brightness. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.
