Hangun Hunting

This is a very well produced movie with LOTS of action and kills shots. Lynn hunted nearly a full month in Australia last year, with two different outfitters including myself, to get the footage for this movie. Please be sure this is not a pretty hunting DVD - it is very "full-on" as we would say and some of the culling action is not pretty. That is the way it is in Northern Australia. That being said there are some GREAT hunt (stalking) sequences and amazing kills shots. Lynn really is an awesome instinctive shot with a handgun.

Anyhow - please excuse this blatant advertisement. Lynn has been very good to me and I promised him I would show his DVD around. I hope you appreciate it.

PS: FYI - international hunters are permitted to use an outfitters handgun for hunting (in the Northern Territory only) if the outfitter and guide have the appropriate permits and the hunter applies for an H-class permit.

The laws need to be changed. There are lots of people willing to pay lots of cash to hunt there with a handgun. I would only do it if I could use my own handgun. Using someone elses handguns just does not do it for me. I could find at least 10 handgun hunters that would book in no time flat...if they could use their own. The outfitters down there need to lobby real hard for this to happen.

I'd love to go as well; but like Woodrow, don't want to use someone else's handguns. I think Australia is too far down the slippery slope to change now, short of a rebellion and there are no liberty teeth with which to do so now.

Let this be a warning to those in the US who believe in "reasonable" gun control.

Ditto on all fronts. I too would only want to use one of my revolvers.

Lynn gave me a copy of his video when I met him in Reno at SCI.

It is a good video.

He is a good shot as well. I was suprised how well the 44 Mag with factory 300gr Hornady XTP did on the Australian Buffalo.

And like he says he ain't afraid to bust a cap.

Im pleased you like the video.... not everyone has liked it.... it (and Lynn) are a bit too full-on for some peoples tastes.

Overall I thought the video was quite well done, it sure aint a 'pretty' hunt but this shows it in a reasonable light with mention of the conservation issues.

To the others who mentioned about bringing their own handguns. We are fully aware how many more hunters would do it if they could bring their own!! but that isnt the case. Australia has never REALLY had recognised handgun hunting, so this concession to run hunts with loan firearms is a major concession to us. We have to start somewhere!! If we seriously vocally lobby government they could also turn around and take it back! We have to take small steps and show the benefit of hunters actually using handguns in the Northern Territory!!

I really dont think Australia is on any kind of slippery slope either. Certainly states like the NT and NSW (major hunting states) are bringing in positive reforms and big benefits to firearm owners and hunters. In NSW this has mainly been due to the work of The Shooters Party. Firearm ownership is WAY up and hunter numbers in most states are INCREASING. That cant be said for most other parts of the world.

The NRA would have you believe that Australia is an anti-gun place but it is only so in the big cities - same as any other country - including the USA.

I was one of the last...if not the last...to get a Firearms Entry Permit to handgun hunt buffalo in the Northern Territory in July of 2000. The following year, with a change of bureaucrats, permits stopped. I know about 10 people who handgun hunted in the N.T. and Arnhemland in the half dozen or so years prior to that.

So, let me get this straight. All those photos of the piles and piles of firearms that were confiscated or surrendered and destroyed under law was just a fallacy?

No Rob, it is correct. Semi-autos and many types of repeaters were required to be turned in. However, it is still possible to own firearms, including some types of handguns. I know several individuals who own .357 revolvers, for example.
Compared to most of the U.S. however the poor Aussies suffer under truly onerous firearms regs that would make someone living in N.C. or Miss., for example, gag and die.

You can lump Virginia into that category as well!

It is really not that difficult to own firearms here in Australia - contrary to popular belief.

Semi-auto rifle and shotgun and pump action shotgun are basically out for recreational hunting use but landowners can get them but can only use them for pest control.

We do need to get a licence and satisfy criteria... law abiding citizen, pass safety test, have secure storage, have access to hunting ground or belong to a hunting club. It is really not that onerous. In fact it is a lot like the laws being proposed in the USA right now...

Here in Australia we are steadily making ground in many states - NOT loosing it - especially in NSW and the NT.
