I have been loading the 225 flat nose lead bullets into the 45 LC with 19.grs 2400. Vel should be around 1200 fps. Your thoughts on this for white tails. Limited too about 50 yrds.

Heavy .45" bullets work very well on game. I've used a couple of Keith style SWC's in the .45 Colt to good effect. A couple of casters sell the 270 gr RCBS design that Scovill designed years ago. Theres also a 280 gr Keith style from Leadheads. Any of those at 950 fps would work fine on deer. FN in MT 'I'm tryin' to think, but nothin' happens"! Curly Howard Definitive Stooge

Depends on the meplat. 225 gr. at 1200 fps is more than adequate for deer but it's the meplat that punches the hole.

(.452-225gr) x 1200fps = dead deer "The atomic bomb made the prospect of future war unendurable. It has led us up those last few steps to the mountain pass; and beyond there is a different country." - J. Robert Oppenheimer

I agree with FN. Increase the bullet weight and change over to a Keith or Keith-style bullet and you only need about 950 to 1,000 fps to do the job. If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out.

I, too, would prefer a 250 gr. bullet, but at 50 yds. and well placed, your load will kill any whitetail that ever lived.

They'll certainly work if you put 'em in the right place but count me with the others that recommend a sharper edged bullet. LBT-pattern and even the usual SWC bullets seem to kill more quickly than SSK-pattern truncated cone flatpoints.

I prefer a heavier bullet in the 45 Colt. What I have used with good success is: 270 gr Leadheads Keith style Taylor KO 22.15 19.5 gr 2400 WLP primer 1270 fps "When you play, play hard; when you work, don't play at all." Theodore Roosevelt
