That is correct. The new models (Mark XIX ,I believe) are all built on one frame, where as older models such as my Mark VII were not.

Greetings! My Mark XIX 44mag slide fits on my 4 digit 1980s era 357mag frame just fine. The frames are the same, but the slides are different, with different bolt faces for different calibers.

I personally greatly enjoy the 357mag Mark I's the most of the 357 mags, because their slides are lighter and less bulky than the Mark XIX slides. If you plan on using a scope, the Mark XIX is a better choice because the barrel comes machined for Weaver ring mounting, and has two cross-slots milled into the top. The Mark I and Mark VII use dovetail clamp on .22lr style rings.

I typically use the Millett White outline rear and Orange ramp front Target sights, and these pistols are as accurate as my Contenders with open sights as the barrel is essentially a fixed barrel system, where the barrel locks into the frame and is firmly in place with no movement when the action cycles.

MARK I 357mag with 10" barrel threaded and given a "Muzzle Brake," with Millett Adjustable Target Sights and Hogue Grip.

Latest Generation Mark XIX 44mag with 6" barrel & Millett Adjustable Target Sights.

I think the new model is capable of swithcing calibers, i.e. swapping the slide and barrel for that of a different caliber. The old models can't do that. At least, that's what I remember from their website.
