Okay there are some heavy hitters hanging out on this board,so lets have a discussion. At what velocity and weight projectile do you feel a certain caliber is at its peak performance.I'll start.

Most of my on game experience comes with a 44 mag.IMO the 44 is at it's best with 300-320gr projectiles between 12-1300fps.
Of my second experience is a 357mag.IMO 180-200gr projectiles between 12-1400fps.

Now there are lots more calibers and I know a few of you on here have got them share your thoughts.

For .475, I believe a 420 grain bullet between 1200 and 1,350 is optimal. Mine is loaded to the upper end of this range but only becasue it is so accurate that I don't want to mess with it. And I have never recovered a bullet.

Never ill tempered just not diplomatic like my friend Marko. jumping
The load we use was giving me a problem today. Had a fellow from Kansas come over with a friend. I could not hit at 100 with my .475 so I tried some shots at 50. I was high, came down 6 clicks with the Ultra dot and centered all the little bottles of water at 100. Can't figure the change. All told, after the sight change, putting the bottles side by side showed about a 1/2" grouping.
The fellow from Kansas was astounded, could not wrap his head around a revolver doing that.
420 gr almost WFN. Now he is looking to buy a BFR! fishing

For the .41RemMag a hard cast 250g at 1150-1200fps will shoot through some very large animals, if you do your job and get CLOSE. BUT I know a pistolsmith who uses the Serria 170g Sports Master from a Contender at 2000fps to kill elk.

Love Those .41s'
