I put a Leupold on my TC .45-70, 2.5-8x, for a few years. Way over scoped. When I got my .309 JDJ, I put the 2.5-8x on it and it was a much better "fit," and a straight 2X on the .45-70. That is all you need out to 300 yards. I put a Burris Posi-lock 1-4x on my .454 in a 4 ring TSOB mount (FA) and in 15 shots it was history, then Burris didn't want to fix it under warrany. It seems they have dozens of things that will void your warranty, PL too loose, PL too tight, rings too tight, rings too loose... Anyway, after a lot of bitching they fixed it, but I lost all faith in them as that was my first, and last Burris. It now sits on a Colt .22 Target. The Leupold 2x on the .454 now has been there for over a thousand rounds, no problems. As it turned out, the 1-4 would have been way too much scope also since the .454 is no flatter shooting than the .45-70, even less so with the loads I shoot.

As I already own it I am going to bite the bullet and send it to Magnum Research and have it mounted. I agree a 1x4 would be better if I was buying new but I can always turn this one down to 2 and shoot it. I only wish the FOV and eye relief of the Leupold were as forgiving as the Burris. It would be a game over decision then. We will see what happens after I get it back. Dave
