Any 44Mag shooters here who have used the 270gr gold dot on a whitetail? How was the performance of the bullet? I used a hornady 300gr XTP (44Mag)last year and it worked great and now i want to see how the 270gr GD works. Thanks

I have used that bullet out of an old Ruger Carbine (1650 fps) on hogs and it performed very well. The hogs were not large varying from 100 - 175#. It is a tough bullet and will likely blow through a deer. It is also very accurate in both my rifle and handguns and is pretty darn cheap to boot.

My buddy used a 240gr Gold Dot flat point last year to take a small buck. Velocity was 1650fps, the deer was about 20 yards, and the bullet passed completely through, and only left a tiny exit hole. There was absolutely zero blood trail, but he did recover the buck. I'm thinking that the deer just didn't provide enough resistance for the flat point to expand. Poor performance in my opinion. I can only think the 270 would be that much worse on whitetail sized animals.

Shot one WT doe with my 44 Mountain Gun 4" and 270 GDSP at about 50 yards. She ran about 20 yards after the shot. Worked OK, but basically just punched a half inch hole clear thru. They seem pretty hard. I think I'd use a Hornady XTP next time, as they perform great in my muzzleloaders, with super expansion.

Used the 280 grain COR-BON BC @ 1400 fps in both Mt. Gun, and 6" Redhawk on cow elk. I like them. Longer bullet, more tapered ogive, seems to fly better for me. The expansion grooves in the jacket made for a perfect mushroom on recovered bullets, but have more animal to work on also.
