About 5 years ago I won a S&W 629 Classic at a Pheasants Forever banquet. It has a 6 1/2" barrel with the port in front of the front sight. I tried deer hunting with it a few years ago and couldn't get used to the iron sights, everything that I own except my O&U shotguns has a scope on it. My problem is that I have never found a scope mount that will fit a 629 Classic. What makes the Classic different from the standard 629? Does anybody know of a quality scope mount for this revolver? Any scope recommendations would be appreciated.

I believe mine has the Leupold base and rings on it with a 2X Leupold scope. The rear sight come off the gun and those are two of the holes you use for the mounting. I think Burris make a mount also. My Dad doesn't like a scope. He can't see thru them well. They black out on him . My brother can use them but also perfers red dots too. I perfer the scope. I shoot ALOT MORE than them so it is more natural for me and the scope. I like the precision too Hcliff

Tony, If your 629 has the 3 screw holes under the rear sight I have what you need. Buehlor mount with rings that replaces the rear sight and uses the 3 screw holes. I can e-mail pic . It came with a 629 I bought. [ 02-01-2003, 10:18: Message edited by: southern utah ]

You got a nice classic 44 Magnum there my friend. As mentioned above, Weigand should have a weaver mount that fits your Smith. I think either Burris or Leupold also makes one for it. Good luck. http://www.jackweigand.com/

I pulled off the rear sight and there are 3 screw holes underneath. Every scope mount for a 629 that I have ever seen in a gun shop has stated in the instructions that it will not fit a Classic. I think that I found a blue Burris mount that may have fit it at a gun show today, but I didn't want to risk $20 because the guy wasn't sure what it was. Which works better for hunting, scopes, dots, or Holosights?

Tony, I have the exact same gun. Leupold does make a base for it. I called Leupold and made sure I had the right part # and then ordered it. With the dual dovetail rings it makes a rugged and simple mount.

Mark, What are you using for a scope? A friend has a silver 2x20 Leupold that he wants to sell, but I'm not sure what it's worth. I found the correct p/n for a silver Dual Dovetail base (50082) and 1" rings (52323) on the Leupold website (I should have thought of this before I posted).

Tony, Weigand base and Weigand rings, works great! I've had this setup on my 629 Classic Deluxe since I bought it years ago. Brownells has them listed, that's where I got mine. Sharp looking setup! PS: Try a straight 2x Weaver

Tony I love the 2X Leupold. I can extend my range with this scope. Check out completed Ebay auctions to get an idea of the "used" worth. $219 is what Midway is selling a new one for. $226 at Wholesale Hunter. Hcliff
