...anybody here have anything to say about it - good, bad, indifferent?

I've been calling around getting quotes on shortening and porting a barrel and an action job (SRH 44 mag). They have the best price I have found thus far and I have heard nothing but good things about the company, but it's been mostly related to rifles.

They Mag-na-ported, performed an action job, and re-cut the forcing cone oon my Redhawk .44.

I was very satisfied with the quality, price, and turnaround.

Unfortunately I'm overseas and only have this crappy pic of it right now. I've got some stag grip inserts for it. Also had a Simply Rugged flap holster made for it. Can't wait to put them all together.

might also take a look at dixiefirearms.net

The owner is a frequent poster over at handgunhunt.com and does great work at pretty reasonable prices.

Is that SSK doing the "480 Advantage" kit or Mag-na-port? Mag-na-port markets that work under that name currently. I called both of them and SSK was about half the price for the same specified work, but they weren't calling it the "advantage" option.

SSK is a primarily custom handgun business that does work on rifles. They have customized every gun I own for the last 30+ years. Their work is beyond reproach.

I had a family emergency and have been away from home for a bit. I actually haven't sent it off yet. It's on top of my list now that I'm home.

I will update as soon as I get it back!

You are absolutely right, it is Magnaport, not SSK.

Are you shooting the same loads in that Advantage .480 that you did when it had the longer barrel? If so, how do recoil and accuracy compare?

I actually bought it the way you see it. I'm stationed overseas, so I haven't even shot it yet. Plan to remedy that the week after next! Will post more/better pictures after.

Good looking wheel gun! I finally sent my SRH 44 mag off to SSK on Monday. Can't wait to get it back and into action.
