Does anyone have either load data or ex-
perience with a handgun in such a caliber ?
What powders will work in such a short
barrel ?I`d prefer cast bullet loads , since
all the .50 BMG bullets are too heavy and
much worse TOO expensive , thanks Jrgen

I have a 50 Alaskan. I know that isn't the question you asked and I hate it myself when someone starts talking about something different than what I wrote myself but please indulge me. The cases are now manufactured by Starline even though they are trying to make a killing off them. Surplus BMG bullets are not really that expensive. Works great in a fast twist barrel at subsonic. The 50 Alaskan can be loaded with Cast very well too. I have some of Cast Performance 525 gr bullets. A 700 gr cast would be great too. With a 700 gr cast 1400 to 1500 should be possible in a 13 inch barrel. I highly recommend SSK. JD has the fast twist barrels too. So set up right the 50 Alaskan is a great gun. If you get one JD Jones is the one. What they have in muzzle brakes work too. Give him a call. He is not a stroker and will be straight to the point. If you want a stroking to do busines with him forget it. If you want a good product froma guy who shoots the big ones give him a call. He has the 50/70 too.

This may not help either but here goes.

I had an original 50-70 trapdoor that I foolishly sold. I didn't keep the load data but I bought everything through Cabela's. I used 450gr lead bullets from Leister (SP?). I called Accurate for the powder charge of XMP5744. I started with standard primers but a lot of powder was left after firing, even with a stiff crimp. So I tried mag primers with better results.

The rifle shot pretty well for it's age. But the barrel was a bit longer than 16"

Steve
