I have a friend that is a great shot. His name is Dave. I put him in my ladder stand and put out deer targets for him. He hits the bull every shot with his SRH. However buck fever hits him so hard he can NOT hit a deer at 10 yd's. Once he showed me where a deer was standing and he didn't know if he hit her. No blood, so I walked around. I found a boolit hole in a tree 10 yd's from where the deer was. Big Grin
I had him over and put him in my stand. There is a hill behind him. I told him the deer will come down the hill and pass him. Sit tight and don't move. I went up the other hill to his left and sat on the ground with my SBH. Late in the afternoon I heard him shoot. I heard a bunch of deer run up the hill behind him. I waited for a long time and thought I had better go look. I snuck to where I could see him to find he was standing on the ladder looking behind him. OK, leave him alone. I went to my shooting bench to wait until dark. It is about 150 yd's from the stand. Just before dark I watched a nice doe jump the fence 100 yd's away and move toward me. She passed at 30 yd's so I shot her. The 330 gr WLNGC with 21 gr's of 296 had her on the ground in 20 yd's.
At dark, Dave came down and asked "Did you get one?" I told him that I did and to get out his knife. It was the last day of the season so I shot it for Dave. He went to pieces until I calmed him down. When I seen his knife I broke up! dancing What the heck do you do Dave, dig taters with that thing?
I had to go to the house, get a lantern, open the deer with my knife and explain what he had to do. It took a while for him to gut it but we got it hung at my barn finally.
He came the next day and I taught him how to butcher it and wrap it. He had no idea! Later he told me that when he shot a deer once before (Pure luck.) he dragged it home with his horse and hung it. His wife gutted it and cut it up. clap
By the way, I asked about the shot he took and he told me he shot at a fox! jumping

LOL! I didn't realize that Dave was so damn skittish! That's funny! You should give him a rifle this season -- maybe it'll work better for him....... Big Grin

Nope, doesn't matter, rifle, revolver or bow. Big Grin He has had all of those here. The only cure is for him to kill a few more. I might have to sit in the stand and hold his gun hand with him.
He is sure no danger to a deer! rotflmo
