Any folks here load and use this round for hunting? I'm looking for the most potent round that can be easily fit into a 45 acp frame. I need a carry everywhere weapon for whitetail and don't want to buy a new pistol. Factory ammo is not required.

The 45 Super/460 Rowland is IMO are better rounds for deer size game. The 40 Super will not bounce off, but the combination of short neck and long hunting bullets are a pain, and the round doesn't seem to feed as well. On the plus side, you don't have to run such a heavy recoil spring. Honestly, it is more economical to buy a Ruger or S&W revolver for $375-500 than to buy a custom barrel, adjustable sights(a must have for switching back and forth)and a gunsmith to make it work. Figure $200-225 for a barrel, $50-75 to get it fit a couple of hours or hourly rate to get it to feed and $40-60. I figure doing a 40 Super right means $350 minimun (and that's without the adjust. sights). Plus you have to buy the dies which are not cheap and there is only one source for brass.

All that being said, I'm going to have a 40 Super barrel fitted to my 45 Super anyway, just for fun.
One gun for everything is more expensive and will handicap you in the field. The wise thing would be to look for the advantage and select the right tool for the job. A Ruger Blackhawk Convertable in 45ACP/45LC and a Kimber Custom II makes a good combination. and you can put a 28lb recoil spring in the Kimber to try out the 45 Super. You can also shoot both at the range and only carry one box of ammo. Just some ideas.
