Have you always trimmed new cases for your 44 Mag, 45 Colt etc., etc. or have you just opened up a new bag of brass, run them through the sizer, expander, seater and crimp? It seems that if you do a search on the internet you will find widely varying opinions on this. Many say, "yes, I always trim new cases to get the crimp perfect". Others will say that "I've been shooting revolvers for 30 years and have never trimmed the first case. So, what do you guys do? I guess I fall in the middle. I've trimmed new cases and I've just opened up the bag and went to loading. I do not shoot in competitions and I have not seen huge differences in group sizes from .001 or .002 differences in crimp location. Landrum

I am no expert but have never trimmed new handgun brass. "When you play, play hard; when you work, don't play at all." Theodore Roosevelt

I measure a few just to see if they are all the same, run them through a sizer die and measure again just to make sure. I do deburr the mouths as it seems most new brass is abit rough.

I never have trimed a handgun case unless I was making a case for some obsolete cartridge.

Well I guess I'm the odd ball. I measure out around 25 or so from a new box, then trim just enough off the shortest one to square the moth up nice, then trim the rest to that length. Just something I got in the habit of doing many years ago and it has worked out well every since. I rarely have to trim them so to speak afterwords, but I do check them from time to time and possibly might have to square up the moths a bit. Mike / Tx
