I hope to hunt with an iron-sighted Ruger SBH this fall, and would like to know what you guys are using in place of the plain black steel post front sight to give you enough contrast to see a dark target, especially in timber. Needs to be visible and durable.

The black blade works better for me than anything else. But you could try the C-more blades. I think Magnaport uses them.

My S&Ws have had their red ramp plastic inserts replaced with a yellow. Picks up the light better in the woods. Most of the time if the light is good I prefer a flat 90 degree Partridge type blade over a plain black ramp. The ramp never seems to stay black in the sun and it sometims gets hard to pick up. I have a Gary Reeder Custom Ruger that has a Freedom Arms interchangable front sight that has a large gold bead. I replaced the Ruger shallow V rear blade with one of the peep sights from "One Ragged Hole". It has worked out real well also. Bob

Thanks guys: Dave, I have considered those C-more blades, but they always seemed a bit fragile, not to mention they look like they came off a Crosman air pistol. Still, they must work. Bob: I was always curious about how that gold bead front and shallow-V rear worked. But it sounds like you didn't like the rear sight. Does the One Ragged Hole peep cover up a lot of target?

Bill, I always had trouble seeing the front sights with the red inserts or a ramp type in the woods. I couldn't see defined edges. I found a dull black sight either 90 degrees or undercut shows up best. Now that age has caught up, I use the red dots.
